Is it me or is there a fair few characters leaving? The Square (which is being made bigger by the way) is going to look rather empty.

Bye Danny-Boy. See you as villain No 2 in Doctors in 3 years time.
As long as the axe does not fall on Steve McFadden, Linda Henry, Jamie Borthwick, Letitia Dean or June Brown I will be OK. We need a new family.

Not sure about a lot of these axings. I think perhaps SOC should have left it longer and that there are other 'worthier' candidates to go.
Oddly, it is probably the biggest one (Ronnie) that I think is the most deserved.
Roxy is actually stronger away from Ronnie and is finally growing up so I think had scope. I like LEE and think the actor has done well with the Depression storyline and it could be built on. Buster is fine, likeable character, personable actor, we don't have that many characters in that age group. I really like the Cokers so don't think they should go either and again, it is losing older characters.
Meanwhile, we have loads of younger characters coming in - Lauren back, Steven back, Mark introduced, Courtney introduced.
I don't dislike any of them and welcome Jay at least having more to do but one good thing DTC did was building up the later middle age/early elderly characters and I hope we're not going to go back to the time a few years ago when we only had 3 characters over the age of 50 and a dozen under 22.

SOC must have a long term plan and a budget.
Mark Jnr and Courtney are only in for a few episodes so I don't think we can actually count them in although I am pretty sure they will return at some point in the future.
I am hoping that he is going to bring in new people/families which we desperately need to keep things fresh and innovative. He was on the scene when EE was at one of its highest points so I for one am looking forward to finding out what he has in store.
I also hope that he keeps things close to his chest and doesn't announce things too far in advance as it's great to be shocked and amazed and that's what used to make EE the top soap.

Matthew Rose should return, 16 years on, knowing Steve has long since died. Long shot but never say never. If Joe Absolom ever leaves Doc Martin that is.

I'm not sure about this axing. Lee seems to have a lot going on at the moment - his depression, relationship with Whitney and a rather reluctant father-to-be. Seems a bit of a strange time to axe the character? Plus it deprives the Carters of another child when Nancy isn't long gone. Very strange decision IMO. The character was never going to set the world on fire but he was OK and quite frankly I can't believe we still have the likes of Shakhil (a truly dreadful character/actor) stinking up the programme and it's Lee gets the axe?!
I didn't agree with axing the Cokers/Buster either but I can definitely live without Ronnie!! That was bloody fantastic news smileys-applause-431206
Roxy might have been interesting to watch without her sister's influence but I'm not breaking my heart that bothered she's going *shrugs*

I'm glad SOC seems to be making bold decisions. Better than Incompetent DTC with his egotistical fan fiction and crappy boring characters that were only interesting to him and his crony Alex Lamb.

I am not keen on the axing of Buster and Les and Pam. SOC is doing a Brian Park it seems.

I suspect Lee won't be able to cope with the baby when it comes and run away. They have said that he"ll go in a few months which would be bout the time she gives birth. They also seem to be indicating that he's not being killed off although in many ways i'd applaud them having the guts to show a suicide from long term depression which hasn't really been 'managed' properly re making sure he takes his Meds and having a supportive familu as although i'm sure they don't mean to, they've basically just piled pressure and guilt on him rather than been understanding. His gender and age group are statistically the most likely to take their own life bt I suspect they'll keep the Carters alive and in reserve.
I'd be amazed if Mark and Courtney aren't both regular characters before the end of the year.
With hindsight, I think Ronnie should have died in the NYD 2015 car crash. There would have been something circular, and cementing her 'tragic heroine' status had she died the same day her baby was born when finally in a settled, happy relationship. Charlie could have stayed in as a single father, still grown closer to roxy who has to become an adult now she no longer has Archie or Roxy to rely on or control her depending on you pov. And we'd have been spared the Vincent stuff and fatboy could have just left.
