So Spurs have sacked Poch. Like most of the Spurs supporters, I am Gutted! Ridiculous decision. I believe the bookies have Mourinho as the favourite to replace him? Really?! I'm actually shocked. I thought he'd be given until Christmas at least to turn it around. Crazy to think he got you to the Champions League final last season and now he's been sacked only 6 months later. Mind you, I'd happily take Poch to Manchester United. We could do with a classy manager like him. It's brilliant news for us United fans! Jose Mourinho at Tottenham?! That has disaster written all over it! Agreed Teeks, he had enough credit points to at least have been given till the new year, if not the rest of the season. Also agree that ‘the special one’ could be a disaster (just before posting this I read that they may even announce him as the new mgr on Wednesday your time).

Wow, aussielad they've already announced Jose Mourinho as the new Tottenham manager. I didn't expect it to be so soon, to be honest. That Daniel Levy bloke doesn't wait around, does he?! He seems to have thrown all his eggs into one basket with Jose Mourinho in the hopes that he can finish in the Top 4 and secure Champions League football for next season. It's going to be interesting to see how it all develops what with the upcoming game between Man United and Tottenham in December... What's your thoughts on Jose Mourinho as a manager, aussielad? Do you think his coaching style will suit Tottenham?

Yes Teeks, they certainly didn't muck around! It makes you think that this has been in the wings for a little while & didn't just happen overnight. It is going to be a hard task now to get them into the top 4 this season, considering where they are on the table. If he does, he will be hailed as a genius, but it will be interesting to see the overall reaction if they don't get there!! He has of course had a lot of success as a manager, you can't deny that, but I am not sure whether his style will suit Spurs. He says that one thing he will bring to the club is passion, so let's see whether the players respond to him & if he can reinvigorate the squad, as they don't appear to be playing with much 'passion' at the moment. (Didn't he say just a few years ago that he didn't think much of Tottenham & would never go there? It is amazing how attitudes can change when you are out of a job for quite a while!).

Forgot to mention, I wonder whether Spurs will open the purse strings now for Mourinho. They never really did for Poch! Could be an interesting trade window in January...

Forgot to mention, I wonder whether Spurs will open the purse strings now for Mourinho. They never really did for Poch! Could be an interesting trade window in January... Very good point. I would be surprised if they opened the purse strings for Mourinho considering how they treated Poch who is one of Tottenham's greatest managers! Rumour is Daniel Levy has told Mourinho that he will have no money to spend in January... But I think it depends on where Tottenham end up in the table by Christmas. If they're outside of the Top 4, they might let Mourinho spend some money to give the squad a boost. Spurs are in huge debt due to the new stadium, which is why I think Poch wasn't backed enough in the transfer market (incredible to think he got Spurs to the CL final without signing a single player!). Ultimately, the board let Poch down with their lack of investment. If they backed him with more money, Tottenham would probably be title contenders now. So I don't see Tottenham's transfer policy changing under Mourinho. Mourinho is a manager that notoriously likes to spend big on transfers and one of the reasons he fell out with the Manchester United board was because they weren't letting him spend extravagant amounts of money, even though he spent nearly 200 million on two players alone in Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku. He will surely know Tottenham don't have the capacity to spend huge money like United. So it'll be interesting to see how he reacts to Tottenham's smaller transfer budget. I think it might be a problem for Tottenham going forward... I'm surprised Mourinho took the job, but I guess he was desperate to get back into management. I don't think he will kick up a fuss about it for now... until the results start going wrong. Mourinho is not the type to keep quiet. If results don't go his way and he's not able to sign the players he wants, he will start losing his mind like he did at United and that may further negatively impact the team on the pitch...

A good weekend of football... Infuriating weekend for Man United fans once again, though... this club is making me ill!! We have the worst manager in the Premier League. That's not an exaggeration at all. We staged a great comeback from 2-0 down against Sheffield United to make it 3-2 with 10 minutes left on the clock - the momentum of the game had completely shifted in our favour - and then the useless Norwegian PE Teacher named Ole Gunnar Solskjaer inexplicably decides to sub off our main striker Anthony Martial and put on a bloody defender Axel Tuanzebe in order to protect the lead! And what happens? Well, of course we go and concede an equaliser at the other end and draw the bloody game 3-3 despite having 4 CENTRAL DEFENDERS on the bloody pitch!! Please sack Ole now and give Poch the job... I don't care that he scored the winning goal in the 1999 Champions League final anymmore. He has no managerial CV and deserves to be sacked. What on earth did Solskjaer learn from his mentor Sir Alex Ferguson? Fergie would never put on a defender in the last few minutes to protect a lead! That is NOT the United Way, you fool! A good first game for Jose Mourinho at Tottenham. 3-2 against West Ham. The scoreline flattered the Hammers. Dele Alli looks his normal self again. Harry Kane as usual the main man in that team! Thoughts, aussielad ? Chelsea bottled it again. For all the praise Frank Lampard has received for promoting the youth and playing a nice brand of football at Chelsea, he can't beat a Top 6 team! He lost to Man United TWICE, lost to Liverpool and lost to Man City now. Lampard is not a bad coach, hell I'd take him over Solskajer any day of the week, but I think people need to stop over-hyping him! He is still a young coach learning his trade... I'm sure Charley Says... was more than happy to see Chelsea bottle it, though. Another win keeps Man City in the title race. Hey Charley, I'm counting on your boys to catch up Liverpool and pip them to the title again! Don't let me down! Makes me feel sick having to support Man Shity... but this is what it has come to at United. This is what Ed Woodward and the Glazers have reduced us to... I'm having to support Man City so that United's most hated rival don't win the title... As for Arsenal... same old, same old with them. They are Banter Club F.C. Looks like Unai Emery's time is coming to an end much like Solskjaer at United. I really don't understand the point of Arsenal anymore.

By the way Charley Says...... you mind updating the title thread to "Football Season 2019/20"? Just so it doesn't put anyone off from posting who might think it's an old thread. Thanks.

I agree with everything you said about the Spurs transfer budget, Teeks. Like you say, lets see how they are going on the table by Xmas/New Year to see whether the purse strings are loosened. Mourinho was obviously desperate to manage again, so it is a good point you make that he may initially accept not having money to buy who he wants, but how long will that last...(I believe he signed a 3 year contract, including the remainder of this season?).
Having said that, what a positive start to his tenure. Yes, the scoreline flattered West Ham - 3-0 would have been great, but I will take the win. I hope it wasn't just a honeymoon period type lift in form that usually occurs when a new manager takes over & hopefully they can sustain it going forward. It looks like the jibe that Mourinho said to Dele Ali worked ("are you Deli or his brother") - a masterstroke? The great Harry Kane scores again & had another disallowed. Definitely our main man.

Just a quick note on VAR... Why is it so anti-City...?
Like it in theory... Hate it in practice...
As the City faithful sing... F**k VAR...

Lol. The thing that worries me is that they're still getting a lot of decisions wrong even with VAR at their disposal! They got another decision wrong today in the United vs Sheffield game - the equaliser should've been disallowed for handball. The goalscorer looks to have used his arm to control the ball before shooting... so what is the point of VAR?! The whole point of VAR was to clear up incidents like this. I like it in theory too and I'm still a supporter of it, but they aren't using the right way. Sort it out! It is ruining games! And thanks for amending the thread title.

Oooh. Lucky Mourinho. I thought Tottenham were in trouble at 2-0 down, but a great comeback to win it 4-2 in the Champions League last night. A better team like Bayern Munich might've put Tottenham to the sword, though. Well done to Harry Kane for becoming the fastest player to hit 20 goals in Champions League history! A record previously held by none other than the legendary Alessandro Del Piero of Juventus! A bloody good achievement... aussielad, you mind selling Harry Kane to us?

At least they showed some fortitude in hanging in there & not dropping their bundle completely when 2-0 down - their fullback making an air swing & gifting us the goal right on half-time really helped though! Nevertheless, a good win & we are on to the knockout stages. Woo Hoo! You are right Teeks, a better team would probably have finished us off at 2-0 - we certainly have to improve, especially in defense! Harry Kane is going nowhere (fingers crossed!). I know he says he really wants to win trophies now, but hopefully Mourinho will convince him to stay for quite a while yet (Champions League title this season? ).

That goal was comical! Where was that full-back swinging his foot, eh?! It was like watching Mr Bean kick a ball! I think you're right about Kane. I expect him to finish his career with Spurs like Alan Shearer did with Newcastle. But my hope is Daniel Levy sees the £ Signs and ends up selling him for a huge fee to pay off Tottenham's debt. You know, the idea of Jose Mourinho winning the Champions League doesn't sound too far-fetched... he is better in cup competitions than the league and I think Tottenham's "underdog" status will suit him against the bigger European teams such as Barcelona and Real Madrid. Tottenham is the only English team who I could stomach winning the Champions League!
