Anyone else watched it?

Never miss it roverman! Notice that they have Alex talking to camera and doing all the voice over this series. I thought the old couple this week were particularly stupid - or at least HE was and she seemed to just follow his lead. But being 80 and late 60's, still working and being £1,000,000 in debt?! I couldn't sleep at night! Sell the bloody flats you numpties! (did you see the plant pots hanging from the ceiling in one of the flats? bonkers ) However I have to say, I'm a bit of a fan of whacky (my kitchen is based on a red, white and black 50's diner) and I was quite amused by some his daft ideas. I could definitely have lived with that multi-coloured tiled bathroom for instance and I howled with laughter when I saw he'd actually done an aeroplane styled room at the end. He's mad as a box of frogs but I'm not sure his ideas were suitable for a hotel, your own home fine, but not necessarily a hotel, especially where it was. If it was a'themed' hotel in a major city it might thrive but not where it was, you need to be more ordinary somewhere like that IMO. Love Alex though, I watch her on anything!

Yes she does like to take control and a lot of men like that. She's also got a very naughty side I reckon. Some of the comments she's made about the more risque themes she's seen is evidence of that!
Gordon and Blossom must be robbing banks, not borrowing from them. He's 80, she's 67, how the hell are they being allowed to borrow and borrow ?! Which moron ok'd them borrowing a further £240k for the flats when they already owed £300k on the hotel? How are they even paying their wage bills?
More worryingly is that they still seem to own the place, several months after Alex visited. They are still responding to Trip Advisor reports as recently as last month! How have they not had the Bailiffs round? If anyone else owed a fraction of what they do, they'd have their goods and chattels removed post haste. Something doesn't smell right. Are they well connected people?
A quick Google search reveals they even tried to give the place away in a raffle 2 years ago! Tickets were to have cost £1000 each!
I think my disappointment stems from this episode being a bit of a damp squib. It has to be the first time Alex has left a hotel with nothing done by her to better its prospects.

I agree that even though it was quite fascinating for all the reasons you mention, nothing really happened apart from some new carpets being laid. At least with the horsey B&Q and the motel episodes things happened, improvements were made, intransigent proprietors softened their stances a bit etc but this one definitely deviated from the norm with nothing being solved! How can he keep working at 80, how long can that continue FGS? Due to the port in their town seemingly dying a slow death (and there being a good hotel closer to it anyway I've read) no one is going to buy it as a going concern, it's just too big! (and you'd have to undo all his 'artwork' which would cost a bit). Their best bet would be selling it to a property developer to renovate into flats or an OAP home but even with that option they might not break even so it leaves them in quite a catch-22 situation. Sell for a loss (where would they live?) or carry on until someone finally calls in their debts leading to bankruptcy (again, where will they live if they've no money left?)
I wonder if his fondness for whacky design/rooms is his way of diverting his mind from his troubles?

I preferred the original Hotel Inspector, can't remember her name - older lady with a blonde bob. Alex Pollizi caling everyone "dahling" all the time gets on my nerves.

Ruth Watson was the original presenter. I really liked her too, she was very professional and gave great advice, but I've got to admit that even as a female I find there's something delicious about Ms Polizzi; attractive, flirty, never less than entertaining but really knows her stuff (she would with her pedigree though). And you just know that Alex would be a right laugh on a night out!

I can forgive her 'darling' s.( I have curtains and duvet cover in this pattern in the picture in my bedroom ! )

I'm sure Ruth used to have a word that got overused. I think it was 'bloody'.
Both have their plus and minus points. Ruth certainly used to lose her cool a lot more than Alex does.
At the end of the day, Ruth walked away from the show (she did the same with Country House Rescue) and they needed another hotelier. Alex Polizzi fitted the bill.
Is that a recent photo? I'm sure she was larger in The Hotel Inspector ?

Classy and fresh looking - the opposite of mine which is black (glittery wallpaper!), red and silver (in my defence though the black is because of my insomnia, I sleep better in a very dark room).

I generally watch and enjoy it - not sure about the talking to camera thing this year though.
I've been away with my Dad for the last 2 weeks (visiting my Late Mum's family) and he watched it for the first time - the old couple in Harwich (which we know quite well as we live in Essex and used to travel to Denmark and Holland for family holidays from there when i was a kid) and he found it quite interesting. First was with me in feeling sorry for them as it really isn't their fault that most people only stay in Harwich because of the ferry terminal and business is constantly dropping (though Dad tells me there is a nice beach there, and used to be a holiday camp which was used to film Hi-De'Hi - learn something new everyday) but after a while he was "kust sell the sodding flats and that's life" re the agents commission and also commenting on how much money Alexk4 proposed changes would cost to implement.
As i said, that always happens in all these shows - new carpets, beds, bathrooms - soon mounts up. Even the 'sell your home' nes, once you add up the storage costs for clearing the place, plus usually carpets, bathrooms, kitchen doors, repainting, garden landscaping - it is thousands which the person just might not have the ready money for, even if it does get a higher dsale in the long run.
Also, it's all very well buying new, it still needs to be kept clean long term to attract and retain customers if a hotel.

My duvet cover is a paisley medium blue pattern on one side, and a light green South Western theme on the other. I made the duvet cover from two bedsheets that I had. I sewed them together and added large press studs on the bottom. I have a pic of it somewhere. In the winter I have a thick duvet cover made from a medium blue plush blanket I bought especially, and it was quite pricey - but well worth it. The other side is an old electric blanket in dark blue that I unpicked when the controller stopped working. It took forever to unpick.

I wish you lived closer Wendy, you're really handy with needles and sewing machines aren't you? I could do with someone like you, I'm bloomin' useless lol! (apart from knitting, I'm good at that). Post a piccie if you can.
