I wish you lived closer Wendy, you're really handy with needles and sewing machines aren't you? I could do with someone like you, I'm bloomin' useless lol! (apart from knitting, I'm good at that). Post a piccie if you can. Thanks for the compliment Lottz. But anybody could do it really. If you`re stuck - just go on YouTube for instructions. Here ya go, here`s that pic with the reversible duvet cover. The first pic is the paisley, and the second pic is the light green southwestern pattern. You can see at the top of the duvet cover why I chose those two particular bed sheets to make a cover because the top hems of both have a lovely design on them. You can click on the pics again to get a better look. And yes I made the curtains behind the bed too.

That`s so gorgeous Lou. I`ve always liked blue and white/cream together. I read somewhere that blue is a very calming colour to have in the bedroom.

I'm afraid I'm a go to the shop and point at something type lol! I could probably save a fortune if I could knocked them up myself. One thing I really regret is selling the old black Singer sewing machine my mum-in-law left, I don't think she actually used it herself but it was her mother-in-law's (MrL's grannie). It was one of those ones built into the wooden table on the fancy metal legs but was (or had been converted to) electric so would have worked. At the time we were clearing the house and thought I wouldn't be interested but it's one of those things you really regret later!

Thanks Loyttz. You are luckier than me where you live because they don`t sell duvet covers here - so I had to improvise. I did see one duvet cover (they call them comforter covers here), but it was just a plain solid blue, and the fabric was really thin. For what it was - it was quite pricy. Y`know what Lottz....I`m kind`ve glad that you don`t have your relatives sewing machine anymore. Because the converted sewing machines aren`t grounded as well as they should be. My Mother in law bought me a sewing cabinet just like the one you described years ago. The first time I used it I got a terrible electric shock and burned my fingers quite bad....and that was just from threading the needle and setting the bobbin. I never used it since, and I gave it away to a friend who never sewed in her life - she just wanted it as decoration. If you want to start sewing, your best bet is to look online for the cheapest deal....ebay or Amazon would be a good place to start. Or maybe you know someone who wants to get rid of theirs. Or hint for a Birthday/Christmas prezzie. You`ll be so happy you got one. And there are places like Oxfam or other charity shops that sell bedsheets you could buy to make duvet covers...or even at car boot sales. I have made a few quilts, but I found the cutting out of the pieces so tedious so I stopped. I even bought me a sewing machine with a quilt bed on it for about 80 quid. I used it mostly for quilted place mats and pot holders....just small projects. And I didn`t do any intricate designs on the quilts either..just basic squares and diamonds. Nowt fancy at all. Must dig up the pics I took of `em.

Anyone else still watching this?
Oh my days, I'm watching this weeks and Brian Potter from Phoenix Nights is alive and well smiley-biglaugh
Alex has really got her work cut out with this one. He nearly blew a gasket when she called it a budget hotel! (it looks like a run down care home yet he's got illusions of grandeur?)
Brian Potter is one lazy barsteward, all him and what he wants while his wife is run ragged doing everything and probably looks 10 years older than she actually is!
Why the hell did he ask (or OK his wife asking) Alex to come?

Yeah I'm still watching... Only because when Alex says the F word in her posh voice... It really stirs the loins...
But spot on with Brian Potter... My missus said exactly the same... Just a pity he didn't drink from a vase...
My only gripe... Memo to Alex... There are hotels you know away from the South Coast of England...

Even at the end when he's had some kind of stroke and he's even more useless he's sat there claiming to be more of an expert than Alex because he was a hotelier before she was!!
Yeah that might be right but she's got pedigree and brains.

I forgot about that bit roverman, he actually said him and his wife knew more about running hotels than Alex - who is a member of Forte family He'd broken his leg. His poor wife though, I honestly don't know why she put up with him. Once he'd broken that leg she didn't just have a hotel to run but cater to his every whim too. No wonder she looks a wreck.

This series has certainly seen its share of utter numpties and I'm wondering if there could be a spin off series where she sends one of them in to a failing hotel just to watch them try and be clever and actually fail epically.

They could put them with Mark Jenkins from The Hotel... Absolutely loved that programme...

Anyone watching the new series... Two episodes have been shown... And guess what...? Both oop nurth...
I know...
First one was in Burnley... And I felt she was a bit lenient on the dad and daughter combo... Due to the fact the mum/wife had dementia...
Second one was in Lytham near Blackpool... And her profanities were back... Oh yes Alex... You, me and that filthy tongue of yours could have some fun...

Yes I still don't miss it!
The daughter and dad were nice people, the daughter in particular seemed eager for Alex's help and the wedding idea was great. It looked lovely by the time they'd finished.
Although the Lytham woman did everything Alex said to, I had the feeling that she didn't take criticism that well. I also thought she had a bit of a nerve saying the tourist place hadn't come to her (or WTTE), well that's not how it works pet! YOU go to THEM. Thought that was a bit egotistical of her. But as per it all worked out in the end and the place looked much better afterwards.
Wonder if we'll get anyone right stroppy this time?

Watched the daughter and dad one, it was nice to see hoteliers who wanted to improve and listen to constructive feedback rather than the usual “know it all’s” the show usually provides. I think one thing was closed over though, I wondered if the decor and accumulated “tat” had been chosen by the mother who has had to stop working due to dementia and maybe they were loath to change because it was a link back to her?

Poor Quasim last night, he seemed terrified of Alex Mind, that might have been because of her turning up looking reminiscent of a dominatrix in a leather, cleavage bearing dress, fishnets and stilettos lol! And to be fair I thought she was a bit harsh all round last night. The restaurant might not have been modern but it certainly was no 'dump'. It was also one of the cleanest establishments we've seen on here, absolutely spic and span. Did he say he did it all himself? How the hell does he manage that? Instant coffee though, ugh. I wouldn't like that with my brekkie. He'd done the place up lovely and it's obvious that he just didn't have the finances to do it all at once, not many independent establishments do. But unfortunately Alex had a point when she said it was a B&B of two halves - sleek modern and fuddy, duddy old-fashioned! In room no.7 that she left him to do up I couldn't believe that he hadn't chucked those god-awful 80s/90s floral monstrosity curtains and pelmet. A few bob on some new curtains would not have gone amiss as they didn't look right afterwards. I have to say he annoyed me a bit repeatedly saying he has expensive tastes - that's fine for your house mate but this is your business, at £50-ish a night it doesn't have to be high end! (and he couldn't up his prices due to competition). And we never found out if that Virgin crew are using it or if it was all just contrived for the programme to make a good story. Nice fella though in contrast to next weeks who from the trailer look like they could be pains in the arse!
