How about a forum code, where for example, if somebody starts a thread with an * asterix after the title (eg. Deirdre's Funeral*), it denotes that they're welcoming serious debate and discussion only.
Then the jokers amongst us won't contribute to those threads if we feel we can't follow the serious nature of it.
Would that make everybody happy?
I come on here mainly for a laugh, but I don't want my incessant mucking about to be the reason that forces anybody to leave the forum.
It isn't a perfect solution I know, but I honestly don't know what else is.

The Mods and i will have a chat about it but of course there will be people that don't know the 'procedures'. That said we are planning on doing an announcement concerning forum 'rules' and what to expect here. That said, i wouldn't people to feel they can't make the odd flippant comment if it relates to the subject, even on 'serious' threads. I don't mean rude or disrespectful, just flippant.

I know you are only trying to think of a good solution but I don't really see how it would be workable. There are countless humorous comments among serious debates and it would feel stifling to me to have to be always conscious about which type of thread I am on as to whether I can joke or not. Besides no one has actually expressed a problem with jokey or banterish type postss, far from it as it turns out it is actually overtly sexual posts that cause a poster problems. Clearly it's up to the mods but it is a tricky situation as any solution would seem to cause a mountain of other possible problems or issues.

You are absolutely right in what you say . It is not the humorous posts that are not to my taste at all, as you say . I love humour, I love laughter . It is the sexual ones that I have a problem with which have quite a graphic content . I find them unnecessary and distasteful. There I have said it. There have been one or two unsavoury ones about the characters sex lives in detail and which have nothing to do with the thread in question and to be honest I don't find them funny and imo a Forum is not place for sex talk. Humour I love, banter I love , teasing I love, joshing I love but you are right , I should just ignore the more raunchy posts . I certainly don't want all the posts to be po-faced. That would be boring in the extreme . It is lovely to have a mix of serious and funny, thought provoking and teasing . I am not going to say any more on the subject. I have made my point too many times. The only trouble is that the sexual (and also violent) comments are actually examples of certain posters senses of humour - they're actually quite renowned for it and many enjoy their posting style. It is very much tongue in cheek. Now if they were about real people, actors or god forbid other members, it would be something that needed to be stopped. But when it is fictional characters I honestly don't see the harm as members are free to just ignore them. This board was very much set up with a view to not only tolerating but actually welcoming the political incorrect and the sexual joking that you mentions part of that. We don't want to lose members, everybody is welcome, especially those that do add something to the forum (which i think you do) and I think there is room for lots of different types of members, topics and 'tone' of posts This is a very constructive post and I appreciate it very much. Thank you.

Jokes about soap characters and banter is allowed as they are characters but as said we dont have any abuse towards other members of this forum. We do ask for all members to respect one another and if they have a problem to PM a mod or me about it.
Sexual and violent posts about fictional characters are allowed as we can let our hair down. But no jokes about race or sexuality is allowed.

And to be honest, this forum was set up as somewhere fun where members could have a laugh and a joke, if you start modifying posts and slapping down rules for one poster where does it end? Everyone is offended by something so it seems, so what happens if someone comes along and says their offended by violence posts? Violent posts are banned. Then someone else says their offended by jokes in posts? Jokes are banned. The someone else complains about posting styles which is offending them, so that's banned too. Eventually there will be nothing left because it will all have been banned in case it offends someone. Far better if the poster finds something offensive they just ignore it and skip to the next post. I don't like politicians or political speak, I detest them with every fibre of my being, but I don't expect people to not post about them, I just bypass the posts. Because me not liking politicians and political speak is my problem, I can't ask others not to mention them just because I have a problem with them, it is up to me to avoid what I don't like or ignore it, not expect the world to bend to me.

To put what you're saying in a nutshell, if people don't like this forum they should find another one. Blunt I know but true. If the majority are happy with the forum as it is then it should stay that way.

I have thought long and hard about what I said yesterday and read all the posts reacting to it . I love this Forum, please don't get me wrong and I am sorry if I have upset anyone, particularly as I am a newcomer amongst you all. I still shudder at all the abundance of sexual comments but I will learn to ignore them . It's really not for me to criticise the way this Forum has worked for longer than I have been here and it is presumptuous of me to do so particularly since it has been recently formed from an Exodus from a previous Forum.

I don't think there is much else to add to this thread so I am going to close it... However if you would like to start another thread which focuses on Deidre's Funeral I am sure there will be lots of positive contributions from yourself and like minded posters...
