Opinions please?
He does get some flack and is said to be arrogant and a jerk by people but what is your opinion on the man who gave us Basil Flowerytw**ts?

Great character in Fawlty Towers which is a classic but I do believe he is a bit of a pain in the arse in real life.

Currently reading Michael Palin’s diaries and he comes across in them as a total comedy genius but also a massive show off. For example everyone else drives normal cars but Cleese has to have an enormous Bentley which he can’t park outside the studio without Palin acting as a Banksman!

Yeah loved him in the Monty Python stuff... And his performance as Basil in Farty Towels was a work of art... Where I started to go off him was when I watched A Fish Called Wanda... Not really watched him in anything new since then...
But his behaviour and his outbursts... Seem to be that of any old man who's growing old disgracefully... Only with his fame whatever he does is broadcast worldwide... God help me if I was famous with the things I do and say...

I met Michael Palin in 2012. I have heard that Cleese has an ego the size of the universe.

That really pisses me off when they moan about paying taxes. It's not like it was in the 70's when they were paying like 90% IIRC over a certain amount (and a nice liveable amount for most of us!). THAT you can understand them moaning about and moving abroad.
I'll never forget Cliff Richard going on about how God only asked for 10% while the government took ..... He HATED paying his taxes too.
Try paying normal tax like the rest of us you wankers. No fancy tax schemes for us, no Cayman Island / offshore accounts. No tax 'schemes' (swindles if it was us) left, right and centre.
As for John Cleese. Love Basil Fawlty (that programme was just genius) but Cleese makes my teeth itch. I find him a massive irritant. He seems arrogant and I hate arrogance.

He is talented but talent does not mean a good heart and I think Cleese is a narcissistic megalomaniac. He was very tall by the age of 12 and apparently was bullied due to his advanced height.

Talented but full of his own importance. There are some stars who have humility and are approachable and don't put themselves on a pedestal not like him.

Cleese loves to put himself on a pedestal all the time.
Some minor celebs, such as F or G listers are approachable and converse with the public, but when they get more famous, they tend to only socialise with people of their standing. Hence the term "getting shot away". That was probably their plan all along, to use the public as a launchpad to build a higher profile. They want to further their career and often use the public to build their profile.

One of the most loveable actors and the most approachable and friendly is Martin Clunes. He talks and laughs with people when he is filming Doc Martin but then he loves animals so somehow that figures. Can you imagine John Cleese with a dog ? No, I can't either . .
