I've watched Hollyoaks since it started However there have been times when I've waned, recently being one of those times but I've been reading about the big story line happening about the newbie McQueens and the brilliant Zoe Lucker playing Reenie McQueen. Anybody else going to be watching keenly from now on?

I do try and watch, I have to admit I am a bit of a dipper. Zoe Lucker is a big signing for the soap. I am pleased they have been nominated for a BAFTA award, which is a huge deal for the soap. Not so happy Emmerdale has not.

It's ridiculous Emmerdale wasn't nominated as it is clearly the best soap at the moment but yes, it is good news for Hollyoaks.
I will be watching HO properly again from next week when this big story line will be starting

The BAFTA nomination for Hollyoaks is a total joke. The main problem with the show is the smallness of the cast which leads to storylines being concentrated on the same people to a ridiculous degree. This leads to people like Patrick and Sienna going round and round in circles and being given "escape routes" time after time after time so that credibility is stretched even more than it is on the other soaps.
They need to increase the cast list and start to spread out the storylines more evenly. What's the point of having Frankie, Jack, Nana McQueen, Myra etc if they're mainly there to make up the numbers and never get major storylines to the same extent that the younger characters do?

Yes. Apparently only one episode is sent it for judging purposes which is ridiculous.
That's fine for a standalone drama but for series like Last Tango In Halifax, Happy Village, Mr. Selfridge etc ALL the episodes should be viewed to get an accurate view of the series.
Same with self contained series like Inside Number 9. The quality of episodes is those can vary a bit and they should be judged in their entirety rather than just one episode in isolation.
For soaps I'd say that the judges should be free to pick a random sample of at least 10 consecutive episodes and make a judgement on that. I wouldn't expect them to watch an entire year of all soaps nominated.

Yeap your right Hilda (love your avatar keeper) Jean Alexanda a national treasure. Anyway back to the subject matter, it is very hard for the judges to pick a winner when they are judging one scene or scenes and not taking into account the year as a whole. they cannot get an idea of the health of a show on this basis. However I am pleased Hollyoaks has been nominated. I think this year will be Walfords turn with the anniversary and all that. I think they should have some of us on the panel.

I remember thinking this very same thought in January 2014 just before the other McQueen rape storyline and look how that one turned out.

Having thought some more about it the best way (for soaps) I think would be for the judges to view 4 consecutive episodes from each quarter of the year. That would be 16 episodes per soap which would be picked at random and would be for the same week in each soap. That way you'd get a better overview than judging it on just one single episode which has been selected by said soap's production team.

Parry Glasspool is very good in the role of Harry. I know this storyline is not very original but it has real potential.

I have to dip in and out because of work. When I do watch it I find myself thinking "This is more far fetched than Brookside got yet people still watch it"
I find it utterly ridiculous that after everything Patrick did to Maxine that Teresa would even go anywhere near the dirty randy old perv yet she's on him like stink to a skunk.
Tony and step-step daughter Sinead? Lucky Tony but utterly unrealistic.
Ste? Are ya gay or not man?! Make up your flippin' mind!
Bring back Brookie all is forgiven.

Brookie was brilliant and only really went off the reality rails towards the end. Hollyoaks is far fetched but at a time when all the soaps are stretching credulity in my view. At least it's not had a returnee from the dead yet. I was quite enjoying Patrick and Theresa together. It seems quite genuine and I'm sure Sienna's interferring will be found out. I assume we're supposed to see Patrick in a new light since his terminal diagnosis. Maybe this is his redemption
