I think this is great news... Just bring in a few more characters and utilise the empty residences in the street...

I blame Neighbours and H&A for all this 5 episodes a week lark for the British soaps. They once challenged Corrie, EE and Emmerdale in the ratings in the 1990s so the Big 3 UK soaps had to up the episode count weekly.

The problem for itv's mid evening schedule is, if you take the soaps away they don't have any other hits really, apart from Birds of a Feather, which they haven't renewed (Idiots) and Paul O'grady and that dog thing, so they have only got the soaps to plug the gap, plus the programme makers and schedulers at itv have the imagination of a gnat, so it was probably a joint decision by both itv and Oates. Oates has got to turn things around pretty quick. itv's biggest mistake was axing the Bill. A good thing having more soap? .......... only time will tell. The danger is the more episodes you churn out, the less special the show feels and if you have a busy week and can't watch an episode, you think oh well, never mind, this then becomes a pattern and before you know it, you can manage without it? smiley-yikes

The more I think about this the more I'm looking forward to it... My opinion is they should copy Emmerdale schedule but alter it slightly... No soap on at weekends that is a golden rule so...
Monday 1 ep Tuesday 1 ep Wednesday 1 ep Thursday 1 ep Friday 2 eps
That way, anyone not wanting to or too busy to watch both on Friday can save an ep for the weekend...

There is also talk of them extending the set at Trafford Wharf to include more streets... That really excites me... I know... Sad ol' Charley boy... Lol...

Holey's right. ITV have stuffed themselves in the last ten years axing some great drama programmes and now they've got sod all left in the cupboard.
I'm shocked that they've not renewed BOAF that was a real coup getting that off the Beeb, who hesitated at the idea of a whole series.
The Bill could easily be brought back. The studios still have the set in situ! It's been used on other programmes! I say they should bring in back but make it about policing. No more interminable storylines going on for months about the DI's family or the Sergeant's torrid affairs.

BOAF Rovey...?
Bringing The Bill back would be brilliant... I stopped watching it after they made Carver an alki... Sort of ruined it for me watching him go round apologising to people and drinking orange juice in a pub... Then I heard they put him and June together... WTF...

What itv have failed to realise is that Coronation St is not Emmerdale and IMO all at Coronation St are going to struggle with the work load. Emmerdale is not perfect but I really take my hat off to them for making the amount of Continuing drama they do and is still the most consistent of the soaps.

Well I for one don't think I can commit to 6 episodes a week.
I find it difficult enough to watch the 5 already. I have 4 on the recorder still waiting to be watched from last week.

Its really rather like rolling out pastry. There you go rolling on and on to make the thinnest crust ever when suddenly it just falls to pieces, disintegrates right in front of your eyes. Rather like Corrie at present then

Yeah making Jim this pathetic lump when he used to be one of the "thief takers" in CID. Then they shoved him into some useless role where he empathised with social workers. A grave injustice. No wonder he buggered off to Manchester where he was instantly promoted to DS.

The weekly eps should be reduced not increased.
In 1989 when they wanted to make a 3rd episode they said "Neighbours and H&A managed 5 a week" so they must have influenced it.

Give me quality over quantity everytime. Although with Corrie lately I`l make an exception. Under Blackburn it`s been dire. I reuly hope Kate oates can turn it around. I`m loving her idea of bringing 3 cast members back.

Why not bring her back ?
