Also Charley Says says Bernard Youens could be rude to people if they approached him in a restaurant and he was a bit of a ponce unlike Stan. I guess Bernard was a Southerner playing a Northerner character.

It's been 16 years since Vera Duckworth died.
Having originally appeared for 1 episode in 1974, she returned for 2 episodes in July 1976 in which she flirted with Fred Gee and was to spend the night with him although were interrupted by Annie Walker. She returned slightly more permanently in December that year, although she was still kinda recurring as she would only appear around 30 episodes a year until the Duckworths properly moved onto the street in 1983. It's interesting that Vera wasn't really a gobby character in her early appearances, when the workers striked against Mike Baldwin she wasn't as willing to cause a fuss. A real contrast to Vera in later years. I don't know if memory serves me right but I am sure she bullied a young factory worker at some point.

26 years ago today Nick and Leanne married in secret.
In a 2001 episode Janice said she is 36 and being married to Les makes her feel 66. As of 2024, Janice is just 7 years away from being 66.

Today is 29 years since Ashley Peacock first appeared, and it would always be hinted he was Fred's son until the truth was to out in 1999.
Actually August 2024 will be 30 years since Fat Fred Elliott first appeared, I say August 2024 will be 30 years since Fat Fred Elliott first appeared.

Hard to believe she was only a year younger than Violet Carson. No wonder she managed to pass off as being younger for so long until the truth was revealed in 1983.

15 years ago today Tony Gordon confessed to Carla for his role in Liam Connor's death. This led to Carla's temporary exit from the show as Alison King took maternity leave.
In the same episode Wiki Dankowska made her final appearance on the show as Wanda Opalinska also took maternity leave, and Wiki returned to Poland to look after her mother with the promise by Carla and Tony her job would still be waiting for her at Underworld. But Wiki ended up being axed from the show while away and never returned, so the character simply vanished.

87 years ago today Alan Rothwell was born. One of only 4 surviving original cast members as of 2024. Alan, Anne Cunningham and Philip Lowrie were all born within a year of one another and Bill Roache is 4 years older than Philip and almost 5 years older than the other 2.
