Interesting article in the Mirror today, not sure how true it is. If it is, this is sad news for Neighbours fans. www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/neighbours-facing-axe-british-television-10054291Not looking good. Surely they will want Channel 5 to buy it, it is the UK cash that is propping up the show. Maybe Viacom who own 5 don't want to pay such a huge price for the show? It was a lot of money last time round, that was why the BBC pulled out. The only hope is Freemantle except the offer because I doubt anybody else will want the show to be frank. Both the BBC and itv have found alternatives in their schedule, with the BBC having a very successful lunchtime drama Doctors and at Teatime Pointless and on itv the The Chase. This would never have happened under Grundy productions. But then Reg Grundy would never have let it leave the BBC. Channel 5 can't get out of the deal for Home and Away as they have agreed to pay the costs of the soap for the life span of the show, so that show is safe at any rate, but rates a lot lower on 5, Neighbours virtually doubles the Home and Away audience.

That thumping sound you hear is Reg Grundy turning over in his grave at how greedy Freemantle has become.
Channel 5 is Fremantles bread and butter where Neighbours is concerned. They won`t get the audiences in Australia like they do in the UK - and they know it. Greedy sods.

And another thing.....if it weren`t for the loyalty of the British Neighbours fans, Neighbours would have been cancelled years ago. Probably just after it moved to channel 5. The greed of the Freemantle Corporation is infuriating. The way they`re holding Neighbours fans hostage over a few measly quid is infuriating. There would be no show if it weren`t for the fans. Not to mention the millions in revenue the show brings in from tours, merchandice etc every year. Shame on Freemantle....shame on them - and a Wendy Bee pox on them too. Bzzz....there, done.

If they axe Neighbours in the UK then they will axe it altogether in Australia.

If they axe Neighbours in the UK then they will axe it altogether in Australia. Lets hope it does not come to that and a broadcaster in the uk will still show it.

A thought just occurred to me. What if Freemantle and Channel 5 are setting us up for an April Fools Day joke on April 1st? If it is a joke, it`s a rather cruel one.

Are there any Neighbours episodes prior to 2007 on the Australian timeline do you know Zeus? I used to watch the early eps from 1989 until those meany swines at Fremantle grassed up the uploader on YouTube, and they were taken down. What a huge shame.

From what I can see on there Youtube Channel, I'm afraid not. There are playlists from 2007,2008,2014,2015,2016 and 2017. But if you want to view them make sure you change your IP address. I will continue looking for you

I think Neighbours is dying a death. It struggles break 1 million viewers. Viacom don't want to spend billions propping up another channel.

I think there has been speculation about the end of Neighbours for years now. In 2012 people suspected it would be off air by 2015.

lol Kylie and Jason are included in the tags in the article, despite not being in it for roughly 30 years. It's like EE having a article done, and putting in Anita Dobson.

I wish we paid by the country instead - it would be a lot cheaper LOL

I find it very good, and do watch a lot of Dallas on it.
