We may see Les back then. 20 years later from their first arrival, 2017 could be repeating what 1997 did. A Battersby return for the whole family.

I wouldn't mind seeing Les back... A bit of Northern realism...

I once read that Corrie would never have Les back. I think he spilled the beans on a storyline that was top secret and he was sacked.

I have no recollection of that, I remember him getting drunk and rowdy.

I have no recollection of that, I remember him getting drunk and rowdy. As well as that he revealed the outcome of Tracey Barlow's trial. ITV were furious and sacked him. Quote Manchester Evening News 2007
CORONATION Street star Bruce Jones has been axed from the soap. The actor (pictured), who had been suspended from his role as Weatherfield layabout Les Battersby, will not be seen on screen again. Earlier this month Bruce, 54, had his six-week suspension extended by a further four weeks as soap bosses investigated allegations that he launched a foul-mouthed rant about his co-stars. He was originally suspended after allegedly downing several pints of Guinness and revealing the top secret outcome of the Tracy Barlow murder trial.
The former soap favourite was called in to see Street producer Steve Frost at ITV Granada's Quay Street HQ in Manchester today and given the news. In a statement, the company said: "Bruce Jones will not be returning to his role of Les Battersby on Coronation Street. "Bruce's current contract will not be renewed when it ends in September of this year. The character of Les will not be seen back on screen. "His absence is currently explained by nature of the fact that Les is travelling as a roadie for a tribute band. A decision is yet to be made as to how the character will be written out. Cilla "It is likely to be linked to the departure of his wife Cilla - actress Wendi Peters had already decided to leave the show in September at the end of her current contract." Steve Frost said: "Bruce's portrayal of Les Battersby meant that Les quickly became a classic Coronation Street character who will be remembered for many years to come. "However after ten great years we feel we have reached the end of the road with storylines for Les. We wish Bruce all the best for the future." Bruce said: "I have had a fantastic time at Coronation Street but the time has come to move on and try my hand at other things. I have already had some very exciting offers and am looking forward to what the future holds." Bruce has played Les Battersby for 10 years, he arrived on the street in June 1997 with his family from hell, Leanne, Janice and Toyah. The Corrie star denied all the allegations against him and maintained that some comments said to have been made by him were taken out of context. A former policeman had claimed the actor made inappropriate statements at the Royal Oak pub in High Lane, near his Stockport home.

Thanks for that. I'd like Corrie to let bygones be bygones and let Bruce return for a guest stint.

Take no notice of what that two bit rag says... It makes up stories... And they have a cheek to charge you 70p for it in a shop... But walk through town of an afternoon and they are giving it away free from the street vendors...

20 years ago next week the Battersby's arrived in the street. It is good that Leanne and Toyah interacted with Percy and Mavis as they soon left. Mavis refused to serve Leanne when she had just turned 16 and Toyah rowed with Percival Sugden over her music too loud. Back when The Spice Girls were massive and Leanne looked like Geri Halliwell. The Spice Girls popularity did not last much longer even though they forged successful careeres separately. By 1998 the Spice Girls mania had died down a lot.
Would not do the show any harm to mark the 20th anniversary occasion and to have Leanne say to Rita "When we first arrived I asked your shop partner for fags and she would not serve me". Rita "Ah that would be Mavis. I was on the phone to her last week and she said she felt a bit ill. I asked if she had a cold and she said I dont really know".

Thanks for that. I'd like Corrie to let bygones be bygones and let Bruce return for a guest stint. I hope so. Get a bit of closure as well. He is still in contact with Leanne, so I see no reason why it can't happen. We also need a non-PC character as well.

Spider Nugent.
In October 1999 Spider and Toyah almost burned No 3 down when Emily was away and she had told them not to stay there. Toyah lit candles and one ignited the curtain. Anyone remember?
In October 2019, they should mark this iconic story line's 20th anniversary. Maybe Spider returns that month and says to Toyah "It is 20 years ago today we almost burned down Aunty Em's house". A very iconic and groundbreaking storyline, raised awareness of carelessness in homes and the idiocy of the Battersby's.

In 2004 Porkface Tully was first employed by Danny Baldwin and Mike told Sean he was sacked after asking Sean who he was. Danny called Mike into the office and told Mike Sean was staying. Baldwin was prejudiced against Sean for his sexuality I think like he was to Hayley for being transgender. coronation-street-past-and-present.wikia.com/wiki/Ep_5842_-_10_Sep_2004

Lynne Carol (Martha Longhurst) was one of my favourite characters, Lynne was sorely missed when Coronation Street made it's biggest mistake in its entire history apart from hiring the Hat, killing off this legendary character, which was idiotic, ridiculous and stupid and it robbed its audience of years of scenes in the snug with Ena, Minnie and Martha. Sadly we only had 4 years. I remember reading a story in a book by Daran Little i think and he said the cast refused to rehearse Lynne's last scenes and Peter Adamson refused to speak his lines saying Martha was dead until it was shot. Apparently years later a top executive at Granada went up to Violet Carson and said "We made a mistake getting rid of Martha." and Violet waspishly said giving him a flee in his ear "Well you should not have done it then, should you!" and walked off.

Harry Flagg the Underworld cleaner years ago. The character had so much potential. I really liked him. Although I am glad they got rid of him rather than be a potential partner for Eileen. No one deserves that.

What about that woman cleaner... She also had a job cleaning for Ken at the Grapes on Early Doors... Talked with a really dreary voice...
I'm sure there was a storyline where she was supposed to be a ghost... On Corrie I mean...
Or have a dreamt that...?

From what I have read in my Corrie books a producer actually contemplated bringing Lynne Carol back to the show as a sister of Martha's, but of course this never happened. Funnily enough she was the last one of the trio to pass away in real life (she died in 1990). I wonder if she would have ever surpassed Minnie or Ena if not killed off.
