In Oz it seems H&A is what CS and EE are over here. The soap that gets all the glory.

By the time I catch up on H&A, it will be back. What a massive disappointment their 30th anniversary has been. Abysmal to say the least.

I think Neighbours is deffo the stronger of the 2 soaps, and the much better written.

It`s as if the H&A execs can't be bothered anymore. It`s because of the fans in Australia and UK that H&A is still on the air. I won't be shocked if H&A is cancelled within the next few years. I`ve had my suspicions since they did away with H&A- the early years in 2017. And the 30th anniversary year has been nothing but abysmal. Moving to different time slots could really be the undoing of H&A in my opinion. I remember reading when Neighbours was moved to another station -naysayers predicted that it would be the ending of the show. But they never counted on the loyalty of UK fans. But it`s different with H&A. They hardly ever promote the show. I`ve been trying so hard to catch up on the show. But I`m struggling to watch episodes lately because they are just so boring. And it doesn't help that there aren't many characters that I like. I`m only into early November shows right now, and not really motivated to start watching again. If H&A does end, then they only have themselves to blame.

I feel this could be the writing on the wall for H&A. In the UK, Neighbours was iconic whereas H&A never reached Neighbours levels. I think that has saved Neighbours. But H&A is a dying animal in Australia as well.
A 2 and a half month break has never happened before n H&A so they could be trying to kill it off like the Beeb seem to be doing to EastEnders.

I don't think for a second the BBC are in anyway trying to kill off EE, they have now invested in EE, hiring Kate Oates and spending millions on the new set at Elstree. Work has already fisnished on the interior sets.

The complicating factor around H&A returning to air later this year than usual in Aust, mainly revolves around the changes in sport broadcasting rights. Ch7 has now bought the cricket broadcast rights for Test matches (from ch9) & the expanded Big Bash T20 league (from ch10). Conversely, Ch9 then got the tennis rights from Ch7. As we know, Ch7 previously started H&A for the new year once the tennis finished, in late January. Now that Ch7 has lost the tennis but gained the cricket, I was wondering if they would hold H&A back until the 'Big Bash' finishes on Sun Feb 17, & it appears now that will be the case, with H&A set to return on Mon Feb 18. 'My Kitchen Rules' (MKR) is starting on Ch7 on Jan 28 & for the first time it will be in H&A's usual timeslot of 7pm, which had started people wondering about whether they might move H&A to a different timeslot when it returned (or even move it to digital channel 7Two). This also led to speculation about the shows future. It appears though that it is more to do with a ratings war between Ch7 & Ch9 with 'Married At First Sight' (MAFS) starting on Ch9 about the same time as MKR on Ch7. Following all the speculation, & to reassure fans, it seems Ch7 have now confirmed that H&A will return at the usual time of 7pm (Feb 18) & MKR will revert to 7:30 at that time (see link below). All very confusing. Having said all that, I believe H&A's ratings have dipped quite a bit over the last year or so in Aust. Moving MKR initially to 7pm could possibly be seen as 'testing the waters', so to speak, to see how it goes. Even though H&A is staying put at the moment, if the MKR move proves successful maybe they will look at moving other shows to that timeslot in the future & change H&A's scheduling? Time will tell. I know Channel 5 have a deal that basically they pay for the show to air in the UK while it runs in OZ and is a lifetime deal and this virtually pays the running costs of the show for 7.

I doubt H&A will get the shove from TV altogether. What will they find to replace a 31 year old show with?
