The complicating factor around H&A returning to air later this year than usual in Aust, mainly revolves around the changes in sport broadcasting rights. Ch7 has now bought the cricket broadcast rights for Test matches (from ch9) & the expanded Big Bash T20 league (from ch10). Conversely, Ch9 then got the tennis rights from Ch7. As we know, Ch7 previously started H&A for the new year once the tennis finished, in late January. Now that Ch7 has lost the tennis but gained the cricket, I was wondering if they would hold H&A back until the 'Big Bash' finishes on Sun Feb 17, & it appears now that will be the case, with H&A set to return on Mon Feb 18. 'My Kitchen Rules' (MKR) is starting on Ch7 on Jan 28 & for the first time it will be in H&A's usual timeslot of 7pm, which had started people wondering about whether they might move H&A to a different timeslot when it returned (or even move it to digital channel 7Two). This also led to speculation about the shows future. It appears though that it is more to do with a ratings war between Ch7 & Ch9 with 'Married At First Sight' (MAFS) starting on Ch9 about the same time as MKR on Ch7. Following all the speculation, & to reassure fans, it seems Ch7 have now confirmed that H&A will return at the usual time of 7pm (Feb 18) & MKR will revert to 7:30 at that time (see link below). All very confusing. Having said all that, I believe H&A's ratings have dipped quite a bit over the last year or so in Aust. Moving MKR initially to 7pm could possibly be seen as 'testing the waters', so to speak, to see how it goes. Even though H&A is staying put at the moment, if the MKR move proves successful maybe they will look at moving other shows to that timeslot in the future & change H&A's scheduling? Time will tell. Sports are the bane of soap fans lives. They`re forever being tinkered around with, and tossed aside like rubbish for sports. And it`s not just Australian soaps - but British ones too. It`s because of sports that I gave Doctors the ole spanish fiddler (El Bow). After a 3 month break during the summer a few years ago because of Wimbledon/Olympics/World Cup I lost interest. And I wonder if H&A will suffer the same fate with Australian and UK soap fans? There is only so much loyalty they can put up with before they say 'sod it' like I did. Time will tell I suppose.

I quite like Martha Stewart. If only she was 30 years younger, then I certainly would.

Former 'Packed To The Rafters' favourite, Zoe Ventoura, is joining H&A as Dr Alexandra Neilson. It doesn't say that it is just a guest role, but I am assuming that she will only be around while Penny McNamee (Tori) is on maternity leave?? (Penny recently confirmed that she will be returning to the show after having some time off after the recent birth of her baby). We will see. And Wendy you will like this rumour - there is speculation around that Frankie J Holden, who played Roy Briggs on 'A Place To Call Home' will also be coming to SB, as Robbo's father (someone has spotted this on his acting credit CV, as his latest role). I assume this will also be just a guest role? "Zoe Comes To The Bay She played one of the nation's most-loved characters on Packed To The Rafters and now Zoe Ventoura is coming home to the network that made her famous. Ventoura has landed a part on Home and Away as Dr Alexandra Neilson, which is shot in the same Eveleigh studio as Rafter's was. The role will bring her back home from LA, where she has spent the past few years with husband Daniel MacPherson. "They basically sent me through the character brief and it resonated with me straight away," the 37-year-old said." Daily Telegraph and also the New Idea article: "Home & Away EXCLUSIVE: Zoe Ventoura joins Summer Bay See what she has to say about joining Summer Bay. That`s brilliant news aussielad about 'Roy' possibly coming to H&A. Loved him in APTCH. Funnily enough he always reminded me of Alf Stewart whenever I watched APTCH. I really loved his dog Lucky too...looks so much like my dog Sweep. I wept buckets when I saw on the last ep of APTCH when Lucky took his forever sleep on Roy's lap aged 17.
I liked Mel in PTTR. It was so incredibly sad when she died. I looked up on IMDB about Mel's hubby, and saw that he played Joel in Neighbours. I haven't watched anything else he`s been in.
Hopefully H&A looks like it could be improving with these arrivals. I`m so glad that Penny/Tori will be back. I was worried she would love motherhood so much she would prefer to stay home. I remember thinking the same thing when Emily/Marilyn left SB to have her baby too.
Thanks for the info aussielad...truly appreciated.
