Anybody watching Gentleman Jack? I'm normally indifferent to Suranne Jones but I'm really liking her in this drama.

Anybody watching Gentleman Jack? I'm normally indifferent to Suranne Jones but I'm really liking her in this drama. As per usual with me I'm a bit behind and seen the first two but I really like what I've seen. I agree about Suranne, never mind Dr Foster, I think this will be her legacy role. She's excellent in it. I also really like the looks to camera, and I sometimes don't, but in this case it makes us feel included and we're along for the ride too! (oooh, sounds a bit saucy lol!)

Years and Years just gets better IMO but it's also a very grim dystopian version of the future. All our rights which were hard fought for are being eradicated. Shocking.
As per with me I've still got last week's to watch but the wind was knocked out of my sails at end of the previous episodes with 'the beach scene' (for those who haven't watched it, not giving anything away). Wasn't expecting that.
The Emma Thompson character is intriguing. Can't help comparing her to Boris Johnson who IMO is a dangerous man who pretends to be a buffoon to make himself appear harmless but it's all an act and he's actually a shark. I'm getting the same feeling about Emma's character - except she's a bit more upfront but using that to her advantage i.e. 'saying what people are thinking/want to hear'.

Finished Years and Years. Wow, what a great series. Hard to watch at times as in the current climate there's a chance it could all happen! Talk about dystopian future, yikes! But an excellent series nonetheless, had me almost on the edge of my seat many times.
Only one fault, I thought the ending went on a little too long. Don't want to say what and spoil it for people who haven't seen it but if you watch it you might see what I mean. Other than that, fab.

Going to start watching the third series of A Handmaid's Tale sometime this week. Frightening series in many ways too as it's not beyond the imagination that a more diluted version of this could happen in some states of USA - it's starting in some states now with the attempted eradication of abortions (you never get rid of them, just make them go back underground and dangerous) I thought the first series was very good when they were working from the actual novel, it sent a shiver down my spine and, even after reading the book years ago so I knew what was coming, I still found it shocking. The second series didn't quite reach the heights of the first but still very watchable. But I was frustrated by the ending when she {Spoiler} could have escaped but stayed! But I suppose we wouldn't have had a third series then though.

I did too Charley. I still have the DVD's. They were one of the first DVD's I packed away. Good luck whoever they choose to play Siegfreid Farnon. Whoever he is...they have massive shoes to fill. I used to LMAO whenever Siegfried was ranting at Triston for something he did or didn't do.

Watching Beecham House, quite enjoying it (though as per I'm an episode behind!). It doesn't tax the brain and is sumptuous to look at. Good Sunday evening fodder to me even if it hasn't proved that popular. Annnnd there's the luscious Tom Bateman to perv over of course

I find it rather slow and find myself on my iPad for most of it. Must have cost a bomb to make. Interesting to see " Mrs Patmore" from Downton as the mother . Can't believe she is only 65! Looks a lot older, mid to late 70's I'd say. Mind you, she was probably made to look older but even so ......

Finished Summer of Rockets earlier, thoroughly enjoyed it so much that I might even watch it all again - and I rarely do that! Beautifully filmed, great, convincing cast and a bit of Cold War drama and intrigue. What more could you ask for? Bravo BBC.
Also watched up to episode 6 of Gentleman Jack - ye Gods she was either really in love with Ann Walker or she was after her money. How she put up with her I do not know she was such a damp squib if this is anything to go by (I've just bought the book so I might find out!). Some of the scenes are starting to seem like they're on repeat but I'm still enjoying it and the other characters stories are interesting, such as the farm family with the horrible, drunken husband/dad, the pregnant French maid and Anne's mega frustrated sister! Love her performance. Again well filmed, great locations, costumes and hair. Brilliant performances and an interesting 'different' topic. Well done BBC.
The Handmaid's Tale on the other hand I've deleted from my planner. I watched the first episode of the third series and it was all style over substance IMO. Just much of a muchness for me so I'm not wasting my time on it when there's other dramas out there to watch.

Yes, Summer of Rockets has been one of my highlights of the year so far and I totally agree about watching it again. I must have told at least 6 friends and colleagues to watch it but not one of them has. They don't know what they are missing. I'm all up to date with Gentleman Jack and next week is the last in the series. I believe they have commissioned another 2 and Suranne Jones is so convincing in the role.

The new series of Ackley Bridge is proving very good again and so much better than the watered down Waterloo Road. Jo Joyner is good in everything she does and we have good old Val Pollard in this series as a lazy gobby good for nothing teacher. Kaneez Paracha (Zoe from Casualty) played by the brilliant Sunetra Sarker is my favourite character. It was a shock when Missy died.
