Well a lot has been said on my Forums recently about Coronation Street and how bad it has become. It is very sad to see this once great institution in this state. Tonight the scenes with Steve, Emma, Tracy, Liz and Amy were appalling. A shame as Emma - Alexandra Mardell was superb and acting her little heart out. No wonder Angela Griffin would only come back for a cameo. Who can blame her. The show can no longer do comedy and be funny and it is really struggling when it comes to Drama. Ian MacLeod needs a good talking too. It is not looking good for the shows 60th next year. What makes it worse is when you watch Classic Corrie on ITV 3 you realise how good it was. The new Bailey family are not working for me and I am not even laughing at Mary any more. I doubt the likes of Maureen Lipman will stop around much longer, she is far too good for this dirge. It's a funny old world, as EastEnders has taken back the mantle as the most watchable and interesting soap and there is a real buzz about the soap. Who used to be the producer of Coronation Street??? Oh yes Kate Oates and where has she gone...... Duff Duff Duff Duff

I'm finding ED a lot more disappointing than Corrie at the moment Holey. Don't get me wrong it could improve a lot and they really need to tone down the crap humour but I'm not ready to give up on it yet. It did go very dark so I can see why they've ramped up the humour but they need to get the balance right and make it naturally flowing, witty humour not stupid slapstick.
I am not looking forward to Gemma's triplets though, that's going to be a bloody nightmare. I bet they won't be able to resist showing us the births, she'll make Fiz's screaming and gurning look as serene as the Dalai Lama!

Cannot stand the new family anymore. I did like them in their first episode but it quickly went downhill. At least the Battersbys had character and personalities even though they were rough as a bears arse. Ed Bailey cannot act to save his life and Mrs Tembe was better back at Leatherbridge.
Anyone who goes near Tony Warren's grave will see mud marks strewn all around it, it is where he has been doing somersaults in his grave.

I agree although Emmerdale could turn itself around more easily than Corrie, although both shows are pretty poor and not up to the standard of EastEnders, (I never thought I would say that again) in Emmerdale's favour it has a better cast and a better pool of talent than Corrie, less dead wood and actors when given the right storyline can pull the goods out of the bag and act. Emmerdale need to get rid of those dreadful producers and Corrie need to ditch McLeod.

Corrie has so many deadwood characters like Div and Minced Pork, Gumma, Chesney, Inspector Fatso, Beth and Kirk.
Evelyn is a saving grace as is Emma.

I would say the only thing going in Coronation Street's favour right now is it's rich history. It has been on the screen since 1960 and is ITV's most important programme and still loved by the nation, even though it is not liked at the moment. It is like a comfy chair, you can't throw away, it is falling apart, not much cop but you just can't part with it. (A bit like that chair in street cars.) That sums up Coronation Street right now. If this was a newish soap starting out, it would be axed, no question.

Emmerdale, EastEnders and Neighbours are the 3 most rich in history TV soaps outside Corrie I think.

Most of the soaps have had their day, but I cannot see them ending. They are really the only continuing dramas still going, and the networks need something to fill the schedule. Better than reality shows I guess.

I’m actually more interested in the new layout of No3 than the inhabitants.

I think it is the writing on the wall that Emily will not be back full time, just the odd cameo. Seeing as Ed is a builder, it is a slow process revamping No 3. Sadly no more photos of Ernie Bishop on the dresser.

I think they should suspend 2 of the 6 episodes a week for at least a year, and concentrate on re-establishing the quality writing, family values and comedy. Fill the gap with repeats of old ITV sitcoms.
I would also make the younger writers sit down and watch Classic Corrie from 1976-1988 to see what all the fuss is about.
