Bit of an idea to pass the time during the COVID-19 pandemic
Think of a Classic soap storyline and then choose another character and detail how different it could be.
E.G Yasmeen’s domestic abuse, give it to Audrey and how different it would be, for example David finds out and tortures Geoff to death.
I’m even happy for the storyline to switch soaps!

Is this the type of example you are looking for? Here goes.
What if a plane crashed on Walford in December 1993, instead of Beckindale, and EE had the storyline instead? Aidan had a row with Mandy and as they were walking through the Square allotments, a fireball came down, and incinerated Aidan, and Mandy survived but was temporarily blinded. Meanwhile as Phil and Kathy were stood in Turpin Road, they were discussing Steptoes horse, and a fireball crashed down, and they had to duck out of the way. And a fireball smashed into the Vic, and then Gita, with baby Sharmilla, discovered Sanjay and Meena in bed together, and as Sanjay went out to follow her, Gita was hit by debris in the Square Gardens, but Sharmilla was OK, and Gita's body was found in the gardens the following morning, and Sanjay was later accused of Gita's murder, so as to keep seeing Meena. And later on, in the small alleyway leading to the Vic cellar, Grant was found under the rubble and was left paralysed from the waist down.

During the night, Phil remembers Hercules was Steptoe's horse, and helps free a trapped Nigel Bates from inside the video shop. Sanjay walks round aimlessly with baby Sharmilla asking if anyone has seen Gita. A blinded Mandy is on the allotments calling out for Aidan, who has been vapourised. The emergency services take over, and it is soon revealed to have been a plane crash.
In the aftermath, Meena accuses Sanjay of killing Gita and using the plane crash to cover it up. Grant becomes wheelchair bound, and to help residents forget the crash, Albert Square is renamed Fowler Square, and Turpin road is renamed Beale Road. Much of the plane hit the estate nearby, but mainly on the green so not many casualties.

Imagine if it had hit the towerblock?!

Imagine if it had hit the towerblock?! Carnage, unless the residents were moved out just before, due to demolition and redevelopment. Another one is what if Emmerdale had begun in 1960, same as Corrie. Not sure how that would have worked, as 1972 seemed the perfect time for the show to begin. Imagine if it was Annie Walker who died suddenly in 1970 and not Jack, and a 70 year old Jack had to run the pub. Well Billy would take over I guess.

It would have been magically empty of everyone except a new character no one really liked.
It would also never be repeated on TV after 9/11 occurred.
The Plane Crash could have happened on any soap really, Phil Redmond was running around offering himself as some kind of TV guru, claiming to be clever enough to rescue any soap. Ironic it was Brookie that got canned in the end then.
I think if Annie had died Jack would have carried on, he loved that Pub more than Annie did. Don’t think Bet would have come back as a barmaid though.

Phil Redmond overestimated himself a lot.
Imagine if it was Ena or Minnie who died in 1964 and not Martha?
Or imagine if Ray Meagher played Max Ramsay in Neighbours and Francis Bell played Alf Stewart in Home And Away?

Imagine if you will a parallel universe where Steptoe Corbyn was PM (gawd 'elp us all), and he said that only local residents of soap locations could be in various soaps. Moirag would have to go back to Scotland, Laurel could end up in EE, and Corrie's Dev could sod off to Hollyoaks. He's no Northerner.

They could bring back “Take The High Road” featuring Moirag and Jane from Eastenders (who is surprisingly Scottish) It could just be the thing to kick start regional TV again, make them all produce their own soap!! The actress who plays Laurel is from Dover. Had to look that up as I couldn’t place her accent at all!

What if Jack Sudgen had left in 1994 and not Joe? Or Amos had died in 1991 and not Mr Wiks?

Jack, Sarah, Robert and Victoria sell up and move to Spain. Joe runs the Heritage Farm for Frank Tate and horsewhips Chris for getting Rachel pregnant. Frank goes after him with a gun but Zoe talks him out of it. Kathy and Joe become an item. No one bats an eyelid.
I did wonder what they were going to do with Henry Wilks, was he really going to keep running the Woolpack with Alan, who infuriated him just by breathing?!
I think he would have eventually convinced Annie to marry him and move away to Italy to be nearer his daughter Marion.

What if Hilda Ogden died in 1984 suddenly, and left an ailing Stan with no one to care for him? I guess Trevor would have to return or Eddie would. Or Stan would go into a home.
Or if Corrie had the plane crash on 30th December 1993 instead? After a row with Vera in the Rovers regarding Terry and baby Tommy, Jack went onto the Red Rec and Vera followed him? A fireball came down and vapourised Jack. And meanwhile, the Rovers was hit by a fireball in the back yard and shards of glass blew everyone in the pub to the ground. And by the canal, Steve McDonald is chasing Vicky to try and explain, after she finds out he has been sleeping with Alison Rathbone, and find sout he has been into dodgy deals. A fireball hits, and kills Vicky. (in which in the aftermath, Alec returns and accuses Steve of killing Vicky during a heated row about him cheating on her and wanting to expose his dodgy deals), and using the plane crash to cover it up. Mike's factory suffers a hit. Newcomer to the area Charlie Whelan helps free a trapped Bet from the pub, and Andy is covered in rubble and killed when returning a hoover to a lady in Mawdesley Street, after Jim forces him to return it.
In the aftermath, Alec wants to expose Steve as a killer. The street keeps its name due to the shows title. But Rosamund Street is renamed Whelan Street after Charlie saves some people from the fireball hit Jim's Cafe. In June 1994, Alec and Steve have a row, and Steve throws Alec over the sofa, and flees in Alec's car.

A lot of parallels between Steve and Eric Pollard. Both of them have managed to hang around their respective soaps for a long time.

What if the Sugdens and Skilbecks in Emmerdale had the Beale and Fowler surname and it was the Beales and Fowlers in Easties who had the Sugden and Skilbeck names? But keep the same actors in their respective soaps and the same first names? Lou Sugden, the fiery matriarch of Albert Square. Pete Sugden married to Kathy Sugden, and Pauline Skilbeck nee Sugden, married to Arthur Skilbeck. And Ian Sugden and Michelle Skilbeck, and her brother Mark Skilbeck. We still had Den Watts, the Osmans and Andy and Debbie, Dr Legg, Saeed and Naima.
Annie Beale the terse farmers widow who ran Emmerdale Farm. Her sons Jack and Joe Beale, and Peggy Fowler married to Matt Fowler. And Sam Medeemey, Annie's father, the old retired countryman. We still had Amos Brearly and Henry Wilks, and Marian Wilks.
