The whack Pauline gave Peggy was very similar to the one she gave Den when he admitted he was Vicky's father.
28th January 1988. Pauline said she wanted Den out of Walford and there the episode ended. The same night Emmerdale showed an episode, so 250 miles north in Beckindale, it was the eve of Jackie and Kathy's wedding and there was a flood which ruined Kathy's dress and the episode ended. This was Thursday night. Emmerdale and EE left us on 2 interesting cliffhangers until the following mid week in early Feb 1988. The days when cliffhangers were mild.

Thanks wallis reading it now.
SOC has always seemed a bit media shy to me, compared to DTC who seemed to love being on social media or in the press. However he needn't be because this is a really good article and I really like his attitude of "would Julia and Tony be writing like this?".

However he needn't be because this is a really good article and I really like his attitude of "would Julia and Tony be writing like this?". Yes, I enjoyed it too especially explaining how everything had to be stripped back before he could start to build characters and storylines again. I was also impressed with the introduction of the Workshops for the younger actors to give them coaching to refine their skills. I'm looking forward to reading the next 2 parts.

Thanks wallis, great read He had me from when he said he had a photo of Julia and Tony in his office to remind him but also this comment: Yes, we need big moments and gripping cliff-hangers. We also need compelling and long-running storylines. But it all needs to be grounded in reality if it’s to move the audience. Again, it’s all about trying to realise an authentic, recognisably real world for our stories to take place in. EastEnders has always had a distinctly different tone from the other soaps but over time we’ve diluted our unique selling point. I think we need to be ourselves and go back to the origins of the show and what made it successful in the first place. It should be entertaining but it should also be informative- that’s part of our unique BBC compact with the audience. It shouldn’t just be a distraction from your own life, it should be an exploration of the life shared by the audience and the characters.
The only thing that I'd disagree with him about was the handling of Lee's depression - the result was Lee being effectively chased out of town which isn't exactly brilliant message to send out! Until Lee's letter from the solicitor last night Whitney was still being seen as 'the victim' (we have yet to see if it'll remove the scales from hers and everyone else's eyes or it'll be 'no, he's talking crap!') and Lee's debts are still being blamed for the financial troubles at the Vic when it was that but also how much Mick had to pay to get Elaine and Linda back to the UK, that was by far the biggest expense but no, Lee's still being blamed so I'm sorry I don't think Lee's depression storyline was a success.

I love the fact Lee is citing Whitney as the unreasonable one in their divorce. I really hope Linda has been helping him behind the scenes.

It seems silly that Lee wouldn't have been in touch with his mum doesn't it? But either way I just hope Linda finds out and rips Mick and Whitney new ones.

I know on other forums people are playing judge, jury and executioner on SOC and the interview.
I think comparing Kat to Elsie Tanner is like comparing the size of Hawaii to Russia. The only character like Elsie is Carla from the same show.
Saying Kat is like Elsie is like saying Moira Dungle is the Emmerdale Elsie.
