I know i said no spoilers unless hidden so have to circumspect (can't do spoilers in my phone) but it seems Babe might want to buy Shirley's share to get an official/legal foot in the family and business. However i think she'd do it anyway. She clearly likes being in control, she has no chance of a family of 'her own' and she will use any means necessary. I don't see why she doesn't love Shirley, think she has done what she thought was best in the past but she happily lied about Phil being near death and the Police being after her to get her to go on the run last Autumn. She divides to conquer I think whilst making everyone think she is 'Switzerland'. It is like the office gossip that is everybody's friend. GeTting the dirt, passing it on to their best mate that would come unstuck if people started talking directly. Babe is growing on me, I like the idea of her bending the family to her devious will and enjoy her scenes with Sylvie. I like Babe too. I have to say, however, that she's like DTC incarnate - he runs CarterEnders from behind the scenes, she's running it in plain sight

2 years ago we knew nothing about Shirley's family outside her children other than she had a sister called Tina. Now her relatives are the stars of the show as is she.

You would think Sharon and Phil would be a great couple due to the fact that they are two of the show's most recognisable faces and they share all this history, but for some reason it is not translating well at all onscreen. The spark is still there between Steve McFadden and Letitia Dean but the writing for both characters has just been so damn poor for years now. I get the feeling that TPTB are biding there time with these two as a married couple in the hope that Ross Kemp will return.
The writing for Sharon has been appalling ever since she returned. Occasionally she flickers back to life but there's so much disconnect between who she was and who she is now. And the history with her and Phil is never really referenced properly. She's known him for over 20 years, why on earth would she waste her breath asking him to change. Bah! Welcome btw, were you on DS? Thank you. I'm on Walford Web but I find it hard to get stuck into it. I usually just post an odd comment every now and then.
Sharon was one of the very characters that was able to get the better of the Mitchells and rightfully so as she is a Watts after all. Seeing her been relocated to nothing more than Phil's doormat really is a smack in the face for long term viewers and is not true to her character at all. You just have to watch that fantastic scene back in the mid 90s where she admitted that she loved Grant but couldn't be with him after all the shit he pulled on her after her affair with Phil was exposed.
I only live for her camp scenes now and I love Letitia's Dallas style acting .

Definitely. He doesn't add anything to the show now. Just the same repetitive scenes going in circles episode after episode.
I strongly believe the Carters would thrive again from his absence.

Same, loved her walking away from Phil in 06 too! Now she's his latest doormat. Just hope she gets to do something worthwhile again. WW is interesting to lurk on but slightly scary!

I think Letitia and Steve have amazing chemistry but they aren't written in character at all. In fact due to carter domination they have only had a few scenes together since they got married. I loved it when they talked it out like adults. But then we had to have the Carter shoe horning in and bunny boiler shooting which was treated like a joke. Imagine if you shot a female character and people treated it like a joke. Disgusting.
And I don't know anyone who has been with Phil who does Ma Mitchell as well as her. Shame when Kathy turns up it will be ruined and Ben getting his mummy back will mean Jay once again will be more isolated then ever. Before it was 3 boys none of whom had both parents alive made them a unit that fitted because of it. Wont work the same now.

I would usually just 'like' this post but can't agree more how frustrating it is as as a viewer from the start seeing Sharon reduced to Phil's lapdog. I thought she might have smacked him in the mush the other night when he had the cheek to say that Ben was nothing to do with her!!! Or at least be a lot more forceful than she was especially considering that Phil seems to think that HER son has everything to do with him AND he let that horrible Karin character get sarky with her (like the old Sharon would have put up with that! *roll eyes*) I was shouting from my chair "where's your backbone gone Sharon?!" Phil treats Sharon with total disdain, I either want her to start standing for up herself a lot more and mean it so Phil gets the message she's not a mug or get her away from him altogether. I too love Letitia's 'Sue Ellen' style of acting but I am very concerned about who is doing her styling at the moment? Do they hate her? What the hell was that horrible curly 'do' all about? She is far too old for that! (I'm not being bitchy saying that as I'm a couple of years older than her). Sharon never looks as good as she does when her hair is up. Classy and sophisticated. Or long and straight if they must have it down but those curls just have to go!!!!!

This, this, this, this and THIS! No matter how much the babies on Twitter/DS think he can be rehabilitated and stay he simply can't* because the sensible viewers aren't going to forget he's a rapist and in soap terms that seems to be more unforgivable than murder. But apart from that, his presence is having the Carters going round in an never ending circle of repeated scenes which might have been entertaining the first or second or even third time we saw them but soon start to grate. Dean simply has to bugger off. And soon. (* well I say that but what do I know? I never thought they'd bring back Kathy from the dead but they have!!!)

In addition to everything you've mentioned above, the fact that Dean's now walking smugly through the Square really boils my blood. I just want him gone, ASAP. I don't care how it happens, as long as Dean never sets foot in the Square again. The fact that we're only halfway through this dreadful storyline is probably the worst piece of EE-related news I've heard in a long time.
