Some people often use ratings as a way to prove a point, and they say that EE is the third soap now. But I am sure the final ratings/consolidated ratings tell a different story. If anything, it is Emmerdale that is the least watched of the Big 3. I refer to Roverman's previous thread. ukandaussiesoaps.proboards.com/thread/1387/viewing-figures

I still think it's an archaic way of measuring the ratings... And I don't believe for a minute that they are accurate...

In the old days there was a lot of assumptions. Eg “So we have 63.2 people watching and they represent a demographic of 270k so we times them together to get the figures” etc etc
I believe these days they know far more accurately, I’m sure these digiboxes are sending back as much info as they send down to us!
What is interesting, and a very smart man called bobtheknob alluded to it previously, people may not catch the show on the first night for xyz reason and choose to watch it later on either because they recorded it or they have access to a catch up service. Which means the overnight figures aren’t capturing these people. So where do you draw the line, 24 hours, 7 days, 28 days?

In 1986, the 30 million for EE was a combined figure from the weeks episode and the omnibus. I think about 20 million watched the episode on Xmas Day 1986. A further 10 million watched on the omnibus edition.

I can't believe I am saying this, but it was nice not having wall to wall soap tonight. It was good to have a break from Eastenders being on. Can we have Monday and Friday as a soap free zone on the BBC. Leave ITV as the soap and Simon Cowell channel.
I can see a life without EastEnders on the BBC.

For the fans of the show, yes it is still on thankfully. Lofty and Mary returned briefly.

Is that shite still on...? It has not been cancelled yet Charley. I think they have a few years left in it, lets see what Kate Oates can do. She is the last throw of the dice, they have got to stop the ratings slide and close the gap between Coronation St and Emmerdale, not an easy task but it can be done.

Overnight ratings seem to prove that CS and EE are the 2 most watched of the Big 3.
Makes you think if there should only be a Big 2 rather than a Big 3. When EE and Neighbours came along, they reached the heights of Corrie in a short space of time. Over 20 million viewers and iconic status.

BARB Official ratings Week ending 03/03
EastEnders Tuesday: 6,324,826 Emmerdale Tuesday: 6,159,567
I know it is only one days rating and we can't look too much into this, however it good to see EastEnders being the second soap for the 26/02. Not sure if this is more to do with a below par Emmerdale or an improved EastEnders? Hopefully we will see more of this under Kate Oates. I can see there being a summer of clashes between the two soaps, the last thing ITV want is a stronger resurgent EastEnders.
