Blimey this thread takes me back, I haven't rented a movie since our video shop closed down around 18 years ago!! smiley-yikes . My mum was always rather wary that a constantly borrowed video would somehow break our rather costly rented machine, incase the man we rented it off refused to mend it as we shouldn't have put these 'faulty' videos in it . It was always hoped the tape player wouldn't mangle the tape up whilst you had it in your possession too,and add to this that it was quite expensive, going to pick a video was something of a rare treat!

Jurassic World, not as bad as what I thought it was going to be and it is doing extremely well in the box office.

I tend to go to the cinema mainly when there is a new Tarantino or David Lynch film out. I watched the new film version of The Sweeney recently but was a bit disappointed. The 70's series was TV gold.

Blimey I had forgotten all about The Sweeney Film, I cannot believe it was only three years ago as it feels a lot longer that I went to watch it. I am far too young to remember the original, but the remake was dreadful.

We saw the Equaliser. Thoroughly enjoyed that one. We watched Kingman last night which was a good film. It's sort of Lee Nelson crossed with James Bond and Joe 90. The massive punch ups reminded me The sort of barneys in The Shed End at Stamford Bridge back in the day when someone called them Cockneys The absolute WORST film I've seen is called Two Lane Black Top a cult movie from the 70s that my OH Has banged-on about incessantly as being brilliant and fab plus its got classic American cars in it. Well our son bought this rubbish from Amazon for him - it is so bad that in fact it ought to be brilliant, yet it's just cobblers instead. Basically it's two good ol' boys in the 70s going on a road trip in their old banger. They road race a selection of saddos and pick up girls along the way, one of which tags along with them. She then proceeded to have it off with both of them anyone else who happens along, particularly if they're wearing kipper ties and tank tops. It really is the biggest load of garbage ever made. Having endured this I asked my husband if he was actually serious when he reckoned this was a brilliant film, he sheepishly replied that he was a young teen when he'd last seen it and then it was fantastic! Not any more though. That's one that will remain at the back of the cupboard forever.

I just sent two DVDs back to Netflix (Queenie DVD 2, and Pearl Harbour coz hubby wanted to watch it). On Wednesday I`ll be getting 2 DVDs that have been in a 'long wait' status for ages.... The Song Of Lunch, and Three and Out.

I`ve always liked Cameron Diaz. Loved her in 'The Holiday' with Kate Winslet. Didn't know you were a Cameron Diaz fan, Wendy. I've liked her ever since My Best Friend's Wedding. There's a scene when she has to sing in front of a group of people. Seems really shy and uncomfortable at first and then gains confidence.

I`ve always meant to see that film Donna. Is that the one with Richard Gere in it?
Welcome to the forum Donna...it`s a real pleasure seeing you here.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome, Wendy. Very delighted to be here. To answer your My Best Friend's Wedding question......Richard Gere wasn't in it, but interesting that you'd say that as Julia Roberts was. I immediately thought of their connection to another 90's film Pretty Woman. The two male leads in My Best Friend's Wedding were Dermot Mulroney and Rupert Everett. I just looked up Mulroney's name as I couldn't remember it. I've never been a huge Julia Roberts fan, but it's a pleasant, romantic comedy. Watched Bessie last night. Totally absorbing. My mind didn't wander for a second. Queen Latifah was wonderful and I LOVED Monique. Both ladies received Emmy nominations (for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress).

That's excellent about their Emmy noms......hope they win big. I didn't know Monique was in it too. Must go to Imdb when I get back on my pc later as I want to check my Netflix queue too. Being without my main pc is torture to me as I was in the middle of designing some knitting projects for Christmas when my pc started acting up. No sign of my new graphics card yet. Hubby tracked UPS, but haven't heard nothing yet.

Good new film fans. There is going to be a biopic about Lucile Ball. Cate Blanchett is going to play her. Cate was absolutely brilliant when she played Katherine Hepburn in 'The Aviator'. Her likeness to Katherine was spot on. She even had her voice down pat. Which reminds me...I still have Katherine Hepburn's biography that I haven`t finished reading yet from about 2 years ago lol. www.thewrap.com/cate-blanchett-lucille-ball-aaron-sorkin-biopic-escape-artists-exclusive/

Good thing you start well in advance. If you were one of those last minute Christmas folks you'd be in trouble.

However, now that I think about it, that's not a bad idea. I think she can do anything. I'm not very good at creative casting. I remember when I heard Damian Lewis was cast as 'Soames' in the remake of The Forsyte Saga, (and at the time I'd only seen him in Band of Brothers), I was disappointed, but then when it aired, I realized he was a marvelous choice.
