I have to admit Donna that I never watched the original Forsyte Saga except for some clips in the black and white version, so I never really compared the two Soames. When it was shown on Masterpiece Theatre, it was the first time I had seen Daniel Lewis in anything. My fave character as the time was Phillip played by Ioann Gruffudd. So gorgeous. The Forsyte Saga is another ebook I have in my queue that I still keep meaning to read.

Yes, I thought Ioan Gruffud was the best of the 3 actors I've seen play Phillip. There's an old MGM movie, That Forsyte Woman. It doesn't cover the vast time span that both tv series did. Robert Young (who starred in an American 50's series Father Knows Best) plays Phillip. I thought he was very miscast. Errol Flynn was 'Soames', Greer Garson 'Irene' and Jane Leight 'June'. I prefer the 2 BBC versions. Switching subjects.....Someone online suggested Johnny Depp as Desi Arnaz in the Cate Blanchett/Lucille Ball movie. I think that's a great idea, but I'm sure many would disagree.

I`m looking to see if Netflix has 'That Forsyte Woman', if so Ill add it. Sounds really interesting. Thanks for the recommendation Donna.

The last movie I saw was Saving Private Ryan last Sunday. It was a reminder of what a brilliant actor Tom Hanks is.

I just checked Netflix dvd's and it's not available, as you probably have already discovered, Wendy. Perhaps it's available for streaming. Do you get TCM-Turner Classics Movies? It shows up there some times. I can't highly recommend it, but it is fun to compare to the other Forsyte productions.

Yayyy hubby rented 'Little Boy'. We`ll watch it on tv after dinner.....can`t wait. For the past few days I`ve been watching DVDS. I`ve watched the whole 3 seasons of 'The House of Elliot'. Last night I watched 'Saturday Night, Sunday Morning' The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, 'A Kind of Lovinmg'. I`m a huge fan of 1960`s kitchen sink dramas. I also watched 'Chaplin' again. Love Robert Downey Jr. And I watched 'Pierrepoint' again, plus the Pierrepoint documentary after it. Timothy Spall is one of my fave actors, and he never disappoints. Now I`m watching 'Miss Potter'. Renee Zellweger is the only American actress I know that can do authentic British accent. Anne Hathaway should take lessons from her IMO.

I was watching Friends yesterday and heard a reference to "My Giant". And, well, I watched it. Forgot how good it was.

Wow, Wendy.....You certainly covered those 60's gritty drama films. I'm a huge Albert Finney fan......although I rarely see him these days. Loved The House of Elliot. Started to add Pierrepoint to my Netflix list, but then when I read it was about a hangman, the coward in me decided not to (despite the high imdb rating.) Yes, Renee Zellweger does a spot-on British accent.

I watched "The Water Diviner"…….directed by Russell Crowe (first time directing a feature film) I was very impressed. A bit slow at the beginning, but lovely. Also liked his performance......and he has nice chemistry with an actress in it, who reminds me of Catherine Zeta Jones. It's available on Netflix (dvd).

I just added 'The Water Diviner' to my queue, and moved it to the top. Hubby took the Netflix back today, so they`ll hopefully get it tomorrow. I made sure 'Bessie' was #1 in my queue though. From the Netflix recommendations for films similar to the Water Diviner, I added 'Good Night and Good Luck' about Ed Murrow. George Clooney won awards for this. i`ve always been fascinated about early television presenters. I loved 'Little Boy'. I guessed the ending, but was still wonderful anyway. Not to give anything away, but Pepper the little boy crying really tugged at my heartstrings. Not many kids can cry on cue (nor some adults), but this young actor was excellent.

I think you'll like The Water Diviner, Wendy, but please don't let the slow beginning put you off. It becomes more interesting.

Isn`t it just typical. We sent the DVD`s back to Netflix on Tuesday, and still haven`t heard back from them. Yet last week we got a notice about 12 hours after we sent `em back. I really want to see that 'bessie' DVD re: my Bertie&Elizabeth DVD. I remember mentioning to you a scene in B&E years ago donna1 where they were at a bomb site during WW2. And a man mentions how she had dressed up to see them, and Elizabeth replied "Well you would get dressed up to see me wouldn`t you", and the man laughed. Well I remember saying how much that man reminded me of my beloved Grandfather so much.Well here`s the scene in B&E and a pic of my paternal Grandparents taken in the 1950s so you can see for yourself how much they look alike.
