Just seen this thread title and made me think how long it is since i went to the Cinema. I think it was Terminator;Genisys about 3 months ago which, to quote 'Cockney Nan' "what A pile of shite"
Marxist has just told me that the new Kray film is very good so might try and see that next week.

Hubby watched 'American Sniper' last month on DVD, and thought it was excellent too scargy. I couldn`t watch it though as I knew the ending already. Clint Eastwood really is an excellent director. Loved Grand Torino.

American Sniper and The Fury. Excellent films. Yes, saw both of them and really enjoyed them. Hubby tends to get the deciding vote on which film we see but i'm usually fine with it as I'm really interested in Political History and Current Affairs which tend to be a lot about Wars anyway.

Well donna1 I watched 'Bessie' on Saturday night. What an excellent biopic. I recognised Bessie`s husband Jack Gee as Chalky White from 'Boardwalk Empire'. I also watched the special features on the DVD and apparently choosing Queen Latifah for her role was nearly 20 years in the making. They showed an audition tape from 1996 of her singing Bessie`s songs. What an absolute travesty that it won nothing at the Emmy`s last night. I found this excellent website about how true to life the biopic was, and how brilliantly the actors looked and portrayed them. www.historyvshollywood.com/reelfaces/bessie/

Last night I watched 'The Water Diviner'. Russell Crowe was very good. I was a bit disappointed at the end though that we had to guess his happy ending. Did Conner take his son and love interest and her son back to Australia, or did he stay in Turkey?. With the amount of sugar Ayshe put in his coffee to make it all sludgy made me think she`d follow him to Australia if he asked her. Especially to get away from her vile husbands family. What a sleaze her brother in law was. I`m so happy he got one son back though. What a miracle that must have seemed.

We watched The Fury again with Brad Pitt. There is such garbage on telly recently that the DVD collection is getting a severe battering - must not complain otherwise the Only Fools & Horses box sets will be emerging from the cupboard...................... TBH I would like to watch some classics like Far From the Madding Crowd - the original with Julie Christie or any of the Hardy works - but OH moans throughout therefore I never get to see them. Instead I get rubbish like The World's Fatest Indian that to me is boring as hell

I got out my 'Darling Buds of May' DVDs out last night, After I watched Emmerdale, there wasn`t anything else I was interested in. As Pa Larkin would say....'perfek'

Got Pitch Perfect 2 on in the background. It's actually a pretty funny film. Anna Kendrick is awesome, I have to say.

Oh dear donna1 our cable just went out. Hubby called the cable company, and wouldn`t you know it - we can`t get the cable box replaced til Monday. And I really wanted to watch Masterpiece Theatre this Sunday too. Hubby is really ticked coz he won`t be able to watch his football, NCIS or his other shows all weekend. And just the other day hubby realised we could get the MeTV channel, so he`s been watching a ton of his fave classic shows this week. Looks like the Roku and Hulu+ will be used a lot this weekend.

Isn`t it just typical. We sent the DVD`s back to Netflix on Tuesday, and still haven`t heard back from them. Yet last week we got a notice about 12 hours after we sent `em back. I really want to see that 'bessie' DVD re: my Bertie&Elizabeth DVD. I remember mentioning to you a scene in B&E years ago donna1 where they were at a bomb site during WW2. And a man mentions how she had dressed up to see them, and Elizabeth replied "Well you would get dressed up to see me wouldn`t you", and the man laughed. Well I remember saying how much that man reminded me of my beloved Grandfather so much.Well here`s the scene in B&E and a pic of my paternal Grandparents taken in the 1950s so you can see for yourself how much they look alike. They certainly do look alike, Wendy.

I think he was only slightly less cranky in Bessie. Ha! I was surprised to find out Queen Latifah had been considered for that role for 20 years. I think life experience made for a much more interesting portrayal than she would have given years ago. I was disappointed that neither Latifah nor Mo'Nique won last night. Oh well.......at least Jon Hamm won for Mad Men. Thank you for that history vs. Hollywood link. They certainly got all the looks right.......and seemed very accurate regarding Bessie Smith's life.

Someone online said if he takes her back to Australia for good, really be pissed when she sees how remote his home is. I'm just happy that they appear to be starting a romance......even though we're not given any details (e.g. did he stay there? did she leave with him?). Yes, the brother-in-law was dreadful. Thought the extra sugar in the coffee tradition was charming.

I agree Donna, Mo-Nique was good too as Bessie`s mentor. I enjoyed her scenes. She`s another who can belt out a good tune. Apparently there is a DVD of the music. I really wouldn`t have minded Bessie losing out if something decent had won instead. I can`t even remember what won - it couldn`t have been all that memorable. HBO did good for Emmy`s, but the real winners lost out. What a shame
