I got 'The Navigators' from Netflix this week. I watched some of it years ago, but never saw it all the way through. Now I`m glad I watched it as it was very good. Ken Loache is a brilliant director. He and Mike Oeigh are my fave directors. They both have the human psych down perfectly. The other DVD I got was 'Serena'. I just started to watch it, and we got a brief power surge. It`s still in my DVD drawer. And yesterday I gt a bonus DVD that has been top of my queue with a 'short wait' status for ages. Maybe Netflix took pity on me LOL. 'Something the Lord Made' looks so interesting. I`m a sucker for period costume dramas of the 1940`s, and this looks great. I noticed it`s an HBO drama from 2004 which are always top quality. Will try and watch them both this week so I can send them back Monday.

We watched The Fury again with Brad Pitt. There is such garbage on telly recently that the DVD collection is getting a severe battering - must not complain otherwise the Only Fools & Horses box sets will be emerging from the cupboard...................... TBH I would like to watch some classics like Far From the Madding Crowd - the original with Julie Christie or any of the Hardy works - but OH moans throughout therefore I never get to see them. Instead I get rubbish like The World's Fatest Indian that to me is boring as hell When I look at the casting of the Far From The Madding Crowd remake, it just doesn't compare. Michael Sheen (in the part Peter Finch had in the original) is the only performer I like in the remake. For me the others can't hold a candle to Julie Christie, Terence Stamp and Alan Bates. Probably not fair to say that as I haven't seen the new one, but I say it based on other things I've seen those actors in.

Hubby watched 'American Sniper' last month on DVD, and thought it was excellent too scargy. I couldn`t watch it though as I knew the ending already. Clint Eastwood really is an excellent director. Loved Grand Torino. The scene when Clint Eastwood is trying to make an effort to fit in (in his own way) and be sociable during the party his neighbors are giving is lovely. The ending makes me sad......even now......and I saw it a couple of years ago.

Oh dear donna1 our cable just went out. Hubby called the cable company, and wouldn`t you know it - we can`t get the cable box replaced til Monday. And I really wanted to watch Masterpiece Theatre this Sunday too. Hubby is really ticked coz he won`t be able to watch his football, NCIS or his other shows all weekend. And just the other day hubby realised we could get the MeTV channel, so he`s been watching a ton of his fave classic shows this week. Looks like the Roku and Hulu+ will be used a lot this weekend. So sorry to hear about your cable, Wendy. I'm no sports fan, but I can still relate to how Kent must feel about missing football, etc. I'm assuming it's fixed by now. Hope so. Since it was last week, I'm guessing the Masterpiece Theatre program you wanted to see was Indian Summers. I was disappointed in the first episode......although it did start to pick up near the end. I think I made the mistake of expecting another Jewel In The Crown, so I should lower my expectations. Also, for me, one of the joys of watching British tv series is seeing so many familiar faces and marveling at how versatile they are, but in this series, I only recognize 2 people.......Julie Walters and Roshan Seth. Walters has a lot to do, but so far Roshan Seth, who I like, isn't in it much. He's the father of the young Indian guy. Incidentally, he was Nehru in the film Gandhi. The rest of the cast are all unfamiliar and (so far) not especially appealing (although I know that could change at any moment).
This Sunday, Masterpiece Theatre fans are spoiled.....3 different programs back to back. I think that's a first. 1)Home Fires (Wendy: I remembered you recommended it and it did very well in the UK) 2)Indian Summers 3)The Widower. Don't know much about the last one.....except that it's based on a true story. Looks edgy. I don't ever remember 3 back-to-back Masterpiece Theatre programs. 2 yes or 1 Masterpiece followed by 1 Mystery (that's common), but 3 different Masterpiece programs back-to-back.....very rare.

Got Pitch Perfect 2 on in the background. It's actually a pretty funny film. Anna Kendrick is awesome, I have to say. Never saw the first Pitch Perfect, and wasn't planning on seeing the sequel, but there's something likable about Anna Kendrick, so I just added it to my Netflix queue. Thank you.

Wendy and anyone else interested: A few weeks ago you mentioned your dwindling Netflix dvd list. If that's still the case, I have some recommendations. Hopefully, I'm not repeating myself..... Woman In Gold (Helen Miren,Ryan Reynolds); The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (I wasn't a fan of the first, but thought this one was charming.); Hot Pursuit (If you're in the mood for a silly, but funny comedy.....and if you like either Reese Witherspoon or Sofia Vergara.....I like both actresses). All Netflix dvd's.

Watched the first episode of Home Fires. I enjoyed it. I might watch it again on MT Donna....loved it.
If I could live anywhere in the world - it would be that village. (and in the summer the place where Doc Martin is filmed LOL)

First the bad news donna1 Netflix will be raising their rates. Now the not so bad news....it`s only being raised by $1. Now the really good news.... it`s for for new subscribers fro 2014 onwards so we`ll be ok. As a nearly 11 year customer as from Frebruary 2016, it`s good that they look after their loyal customers. As I`ve said before on numerous occasions..... I wish other companies would treat their customers like Netflix does. money.cnn.com/2015/10/08/media/netflix-raising-price-standard-plan/index.html

I normally just watch stuff on Netflix, especially at night. I saw this film named Preservation where three people (and a dog) are camping in some woodland and are stalked and picked off by three guys in masks. Don't know why I stuck to it as it was really predictable and I knew what was coming. It was made last year as well.
Watched another film named "Creep", one of these found footage films. Must admit I actually found it creepy, at least it wasn't yet another paranormal type film.

I was thinking Doc Martin's village too.....all year round, but then you specified the summer, which made me realize it might not be so pleasant there in the winter. I'm no expert on Cornish winters. Ms. Marple's village, St. Mary Mead also seems like a picturesque place to live.......aside from a murder now and then : ) Back to Home Fires, I like the doctor and Samantha Bond. I forgot her character's name, but to identify Samantha Bond (although you probably know her) she's the dowager duchess' daughter and Robert's sister on Downton. Was also Miss Moneypenny in a couple of Daniel Craig James Bond movies.....but not the last one. The horrific, abusive husband in Home Fires is really annoying me. Hope he gets his comeuppance. I'm at the point where a couple of the women are starting to realize his wives bruises may not be from a fall.

All I will say is about Bob th eabusive husband,,,,,keep watching Donna Thanks to you Donna, I added The Marigold Hotel 2 to my queue. Will hopefully get it sometime this week. I really enjoyed the first one. I got another Australian DVD in my queue, can`t remember the name of it now. Watched 'Unbroken' Saturday, I can never watch it again - it was so brutal. I knew it was going to be brutal - but not to that extend. You were right to give it a wide berth Donna.

Donna...now its my turn to recommend something to you from Netflix. Please rent the first DVD of season 1 of 'A Place To Call Home', and tell me what you think. I love that show, and I got hubby hooked on it too. We are up to season 3 now. Here`s what it`s about. Click on the pic again to get a better view.
