I watched the 'Dead Like Me' film again online. Now I'm watching the series again. I had almost forgotten how brilliant it was. I still love Mason as much as I did the first time.

I rented 'Red Dog' from Netflix, and watched it this afternoon. It`s about a dog in Australia who changed the lives of so many people. I wept buckets at the end, but in a way it was uplifting too, and some parts had me laughing out loud. I highly recommend it. Apparently it`s a true story. I didn`t know this til I watched the special features after the film.

Watched Legend last night... Really good film... Especially as it tells the story of the Kray twins from a different perspective... The Blind Beggar pub is on my bucket list... Apparently the bullet holes are still in the woodwork behind the bar... Finally got round to watching this on Sunday night, we all thought it was excellent. I thought the violence might have been too much for my 81 year old mum but she happily sat through it saying she's not as soft as she used to be since her stroke lol! Like many women with a pulse I quite fancy Tom Hardy but forgot all about that when I watching it as he was excellent in both roles, made them his own. The whole cast was really good though. They made Reggie the more reasonable one in this, there were times when I almost liked him (almost!) but Ronnie was as scary as f***!!!! Total psychopath. The narrative from Frances was an interesting touch too. Very good film.

This ones for you Wendy, I think you will like it. I watched Philomena tonight that I recorded some weeks ago. Based on a true story and starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan and tells the story by Martin Sixsmith ex BBC who managed to get caught up in the unravelling of a young unmarried woman in Ireland, Philomena Lee who was forced by nuns to sign away her rights to her son. The film follows her struggle to find him, decades later.

To think it's a true story too. I'll say no more until Wend has watched it.

We've been watching a lot of Tom Hanks lately with Sky Cinema having a dedicated channel to him lately. Watched Forrest Gump for the first time since the 90's last night, forgot how good it was after I'd been rolling my eyes at MrL (huge Hanks fan) wanting to watch it again thinking "that crap" lol!
Also watched Sufragette the other week. That's a good 'un too. Worth a watch to see how women had to fight for the vote, it's told from a poor woman's perspective. Very interesting.

I watched 'Bridget Jones` Baby' on Netflix streaming over the weekend. It is absolutely nothing like the book....nothing. It was a pretty good film, but the book and the film...never the twain shall meet.

Thanks for recommending 'Legend' Charley. I watched it yesterday. Some excellent acting, and I loved the 60`s vibe. Gonna send it back to Netflix as soon as I watch the 2016 version of 'The Birth of a Nation' this afternoon. We bought the 1916 silent version from a thrift shop for a dollar a few years ago. There are some silent films that stand the test of time. 'The Birth of a Nation' is one of them. I hope this 2016 version does it justice.

Watched 'Pride' last week. British film about some gays who supported the Miner's strike back in the 80's after seeing how the Police were treating the striking miners and realising that it was very similar to how they'd been treated by them, so they started trying to raise money for the strikers. Back when the dreaded AIDS was rearing it's ugly head and Maggie's government wasn't exactly preaching gay rights (or even acceptance) their efforts weren't exactly welcome in some quarters! But they persevered and befriended (and were eventually befriended) by a Welsh village and this is the major theme of the story IMO.
I really enjoyed it,had everything IMO. Based on a true story, good characters, drama, humour, social injustices and lump in the throat sentimental moments. I recommend if anyone likes Brit films.
(might have appealed to me because I was a bit of an activist as a young 'un, not only supporting the miner's strike (something that me and MrL can still argue about) and was big on gay rights even going on marches, I particularly hated Section 28).

Believe it or not but I rented Chitty Chitty Bang Bang from Netflix. The last time I saw it was when my sons were 7 and 10, and they really loved it.

Hubby was watching 'Matewan' last night for about the 20th time, so I watched a bit with him. It was filmed a few miles away from here in Thurmond in the late 80s. It`s about a coal mining town in the 1920`s whose owners were trying to bring the in the union. Here`s the trailer for it...
I love to tell this story about the making of Matewan. Years ago our friend Bill next door used to work for the emergency 911 centre, and he had loads of cops as friends. One of his friends was working security during the filming of Matewan, and also drove the actors to their hotels after filming. One day Bills friend mentioned to another cop friend he had to finish early because his Mother was cooking fried chicken, beans and cornbread for supper. One of the actors overheard him, and said he hasn`t had good beans and cornbread since his Mother died. And the cop bragged to the actor that his Mother won ribbons at the WV state fair for her beans and cornbread. And the actor asked if he could impose on some dinner. So the cop called his Mother and asked her to set an extra place at the dinner table. The look on her face when her son walked in with James Earl Jones I can only imagine. James sat down and ate dinner, and he had tears in his eyes because he said it was like having his Mother back with how good his supper was. When the cop drove James back to his hotel room later that evening loaded down with leftovers, he said it was a day he and his family would never forget. And I expect James Earl Jones thought the same too. I`ve always loved James Earl Jones, so this story about him made me beam with pride. He really is one of the nicest actors in Hollywood.
