Not really a film per say, but last week I borrowed my next door neighbours box set of 'Band Of Brothers', and watched all 6 DVD`s in one weekend.

The Greatest Showman with Hugh Jackman. Disappointed. Heard rave reviews. Not for me.

The Greatest Showman with Hugh Jackman. Disappointed. Heard rave reviews. Not for me. I've not seen it but my best friend saw it at the cinema and raved about it. No doubt I will see it one day.

Just seen King of Thieves with Michael Caine. . Fantastic cast but what a let down ! Boring and slow . Every 2nd word from every single actor was the F word. Everything was F **k**g this and F**k**g that. Very tedious. Michael has had his teeth done and could hardly talk they were so big. They are like tombstones.

I watched a brilliant film last week. "The Watsons Go To Birmingham". It`s about a family moving from Detroit to Alabama to spend their summer holiday at relative's houses during the turbulent racial tensions of the 1960's. I really liked it a lot.

I recently watched Goodbye Mr Chips starring Martin Clunes. Thoroughly enjoyed it.ITV 3.
I see it is on again this morning and a quarter of the way through. Watch it if you have time. I loved it.

Thanks Lou. I saw that a few years ago, and thought it was a great remake. I might watch it again today if I have time.

Lion is another great true story. Fantastic film. Bought the dvd too to share with family. Loved the ending where they showed the real mother and son.

Watching The Greatest Showman now. About a quarter through. Quite enjoying it so far. It's quite weird watching a musical again!
EDIT: watched it through now and although I enjoyed the non-singing sections the songs jarred a bit for me. They were too contemporary, too pop, too 'X Factor' for the Victorian setting IMO. Plus, as catchy as the songs are, they lacked subtlety. Nearly every one ended up chewing the scenery reaching a loud crescendo - even the opera singer Jenny Lind's song ended up being pop not opera. A quiet number that stayed quiet would have been nice. The soundtrack is radio friendly though probably for this reason! The songs aren't bad, indeed the soundtrack has been a huge success, it's just that they didn't 'match' to me, if that makes sense.
It's weird because I loved Moulin Rouge and that had remakes of modern music all through it too but maybe the arrangements suited the film better, the way the singing came naturally rather than feeling like a song was getting plonked in here and there like I felt was the case on TGS, plus Moulin Rouge was weird anyway lol! And I don't mind modern music being used on the likes of Peaky Blinders either - so I wonder why it jarred so much for me this time?
Either way, 3 out of 5 for me as I enjoyed the non-musical sections.

I watched the Porridge film and Death On The Nile on iPlayer yesterday. Later on I`m going to watch The Railway Children on iPlayer. I have the DVD of the Railway Children, but can't be bothered to dig it out, so will watch it on iPlayer instead.

We watched Death on the Nile as well but thought that despite having an all star cast including Peter Ustinov as Poirot it was a bit hammy. Watched the box set of Kiri which hadn't seen when it was on before and although Sarah Lancashire was excellent as the dedicated but flawed social worker, the plot had more holes than my Grandad's vest plus the ending was a bit daft.
